Hi Everyone,

I have been reading these forums for a while now, but this is my first time posting. I recently heard about something that seemed fairly cool to me and thought I would post it here and see if anyone has been there before and had any feedback on the place. It looks like the migration is happening right now and I'm planning to head down next weekend, but wanted to hear if anyone else might have been there before.

Pretty much its a location near Port Stanley where tens of thousands of Hawk, Eagles, and other large birds migrate during September and October using the cliffs for the lift it provides (I believe).

I live about 40 mintues from here and have actually seen a snowy owl passing through before (I don't think this happens often though)

I went there two years ago on a birding trip and from what I remember it was fairly good! Turkey vultures GALORE, red-tails, and a cooper's (sharp shinned maybe?) for sure- also saw a bald eagle or two...but I would definetely reccomend checking it out if you have the time! :)

Ooops sorry I just remembered- apparently we had just missed out on the migration of broad-winged hawks; so I'm not sure if it's too late this year but if not check it out?

I did go, but sadly I didn't choose the best time. The hawks and eagles tend to prefer to fly when its warm and dry (We learned after we went), but we went on a cool, damp, rainy morning. We still managed to see a red tailed hawk, about 15 sharp shinned hawks, and some turkey vultures though. The best part I would say wasn't the hawks themselves though, but that we were there during the Blue Jay migration, so there was a constant stream of them flying through. It was really cool. I will definitely go again, especially now that I know what to plan for a bit better.

Its not to late in the year to check out the migration, they have a chart of the best time to view things, and it looks like a lot of them are still to come.
