Hello Fishkeepers

Aight lads. I'm getting fed up with my stupid saltwater tank. I've always gotten stupid hair algae or cyano, and I'm just never happy with it. I think i might just tear it down and go for a freshwater planted discus/ray tank. Thoughts?

Didn't know you kept fish as well as all your birds!

How big is the tank in question, and what is living in it currently?

Haha, yup!

Also its a 90 gallon, current livestock is a dusky wrasse, marine betta, sand sifter goby, a handful of trochus and strawberry top snails, and a few peppermint ship. Plus a few sad pieces of coral :p

Nice! You could probably do a discus/ray tank without much trouble so long as you had a fair amount of money and effort to put into it. Would you sell your fish or trade them to a LFS?

Ayo, thanks. Also neither, I would set up another, smaller saltwater tank and keep them, lol.

I have a 10g with two peacock gudgeons. Do you think it'd be fine to add a German Blue Ram to the mix?

I would say no. If you get a male it'll probably chase the gobies around constantly.
If I got a female do you think it'd be fine?

P.S. I went to the fish store earlier and decided not to get the ram, but I had to get 6 WCMMs for a school aquaponics project (they're going in my 10g for now until my new 10g's cycled). That'll be after the project and they'll just hang with the gudgeons for a month.

Do you think a betta would be fine with the gudgeons?

Female might work. The main thing is they tend to stick close to the bottom, and so more reason for conflict. Rams are peaceful by cichlid standards, but they still do chase other fish. Also, I assume you know rams tend to be sensitive?

Betta would likely be fine. They tend to stay towards the top and the gobies look nothing like them.

I just went through fifteen minutes of terror...

A WCMM, as I was pouring it into a quart container that I put a net over to transfer the fish into the tank, jumped out of the net and fell behind the stand/shelf that it was on. I had to unbolt the stand, move two tanks (yes, with the water, though I lowered the water) off the stand, push the stand over, and rescue the fish. Then I had to put everything back to the way it was. I'm considering naming it Suicidal (but I considered Joker or Harley Quinn) (I like naming animals after emotions/feelings) but then, I can't tell the difference between it and the other fish...

I had a Dojo Loach do that once, except he landed in front of the tank and was wriggling around like a crazy thing.
