Hello, My name is Paula and koalas are my favorite animals. I am a Docent at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I have been a volunteer there since 2005. I enjoy traveling to other zoos and photographing animals. My dream is to go to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia to hold a koala.

Welcome to Zoochat Paula. Does Cleveland Zoo have koalas? I've read that your zoo has a good Australian themed exhibit area.

I hope that you get out to Lone Pine - with your love for koalas, no doubt you will. Perhaps while in Australia you can see some wild koalas also.

Thanks for the welcome David. Yes, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has an awesome Australian Adventure. Inside Gumleaf Hideout we have koalas, tree kangaroos, and two echidnas. We have a loriket exhibit where people can feed them nectar. Inside our Wallaby Walkabout we have western grey kangaroos, an emu, red kangaroos, wallaroos, parma wallabys, bennets wallabys, two cockatoos, and kookaburra birds. We have a Yagga Tree that has an animatronic crocodile. Inside the Yagga Tree we have some smaller animals like bettongs and some snakes. We have a contact yard with some sheep, goats, and miniature horses. During the summer we have camel rides. We have an Outback Ranch House that is very authentic. We also have New Guinea Singing Dogs.

Our koalas are on loan from San Diego. In the USA, outside of San Diego we have been one of the most successful zoos in breeding koalas. Since 1999 we have had 17 koalas born.

Welcome PaulaKoala!!!! look forward to reading your reviews and seeing your pics on zoochat. Recently the zoo put the dingoes on exhibit. where did the new guinea singing dogs go? and does the zoo really have bettongs? thats cool!!! I remember reading somewhere that the zoo at one time had Numbats. I wish they still did.

Thank you for the welcome jusko88. I like the photo of you with Victoria the Elephant.

Yes we have dingoes but they are not out yet. The new guinea singing dogs are still on exhibit. I went to see the dingoes twice at Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. I'm looking forward to seeing them at CMZ ! I'm not sure about the numbats. I know that the Columbus Zoo has Quolls.

Welcome to Zoo Chat Paula. We wanted to say once again that you a one of the freindliest most well informed docents we have ever met at CMZ and its great to have you on board here on Zoo Chat.

Thanks so much guys ! I love what I do. Have you two ever thought of volunteering ?? It's obvious that you two share a great love for animals and take the time to learn about them. As I have time I will start to post some more photos (Especially of koalas).

Thank you for the welcome Ron ! I think I am really going to enjoy this website. I am on the travel committee at our zoo and this website is a great place to do research about other zoos and exhibits.

welcome to Zoochat. It is always good to have zoo staff/volunteers on board!

no, they never did

A little late - but welcome aboard! Hope you have fun here on the forum! I believe we discussed Animal Planet's downhill spiral recently? :p I hadn't noticed you were new to the forum, but yes, welcome!
