Hi everybody in zoochat, my name is Paula González (Pau is how my family and friends call me, so from this moment you can too), and my nickname at the Chatroom is Huellas
(from my blog ...Huellas en la Arena... is English mean something like footprints/pawprints on the sand.)
My bio
I am from Argentina and I have lived all my life in Buenos Aires. By the way, I´m 18 years old.
It´s hard to say when I realized I love animals more than normal (as everyone on this site does), sometimes I think I´ve love them since I was born.
The first time I say I wanted to work with animals was when I was 4 or 5 years old and I said that I was going to be a dolphin trainer, sometime later I wanted to be a vet, then a zoo vet, by the time I finished primary school I knew I wanted to investigate animals.
Last year I finished school, as part of the school programme we had a subject that we have to study an animal for the whole year at Temaiken Biopark, in Escobar, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I studied enrichment for Maned Wolf from April to December of 2009. That definetely marked my destiny.
I tried to lean as much as I could, I started to get on very well with the Enrichment Chief who liked my work and my enthusiams, so when the classes finished, she ofered me to stay as a volunteer. I ´ve always dreamt to work at a zoo, but I knew I won´t be able if I wanted to go to the university.
Now I studing 2 black and white ruffed lemur, Annie and Tatu, 3 red ruffed lemurs, Mika, Raphaela and Manao and 3 tamanduas, Mario, Natividad and Valentin. I´m not their keeper, but as I watch them 9 hours per day, prepare their enrichment, i love them as they were mine, and I always will.
I shared this with you, because it teach me to fight for the things I really wanted, I know that there are lots of people that would love to work or volunteer at a zoo because they really love animals, so this is my advice: Never give up! And show always your enthusiams and a your real love to the animals and the oportunity may came.
Soon I will upload more photos of Temaiken, I uploaded some in the gallery
Argentina- Other, they have written Temaiken after the animal name
Also I got some of the Buenos Aires Zoo.
I´ve found this site by chance, but I´m very glad, because it´s full of wonderful people who loves animals.
