Hello from Århus, Denmark

.... which is the second largest city in Denmark, but our own zoo closed long ago - and the same dire fate befell a small private aquarium. However there are several zoos within reach, and I normally buy a membership to a different zoo each year, sometimes two. This year I have bought a card to Givskud Lionpark and Zoo in Jutland.

My own zoo interest goes far back. I'm born in 1953, and I have photos from Copenhagen zoo from 1964. But already in 1962 I had to be dragged forcibly out of that zoo because we had an appointment. In 1972 I began my interrail travelling, and there I visited as many zoos as I could afford. I'm still an inveterate traveller (and member of a travel club), so the number of zoos and aquaria I have visited keeps climbing upwards - right now the total number hovers around 420 (excluding national parks, farms etc.). The latest newcomers on the list this year are Blairdrummond safari park and the Sealife Aquarium in Balloch at Loch Lomond. And I have revisited the place where Marseille once had a zoo.

Welcome to the forum Iversen! Nice to have another Dane on board and I hope that you will become an active poster on the forum :)

That's funny, I just came from Århus! My grandfather and I have been travelling Denmark for the last month and I still have another month to go! this is a beautiful country!!! I recently went to the fjord&bælt in Kerteminde on the island of Fyn, have you been there? I really enjoyed it. I was bugging my grandfather to see some harbour seals up close and he finally gave in. And hopefully within the next few days I will be going to Copenhagen zoo (on my own ;) I don't think it's his forte :o

Welcome to ZooChat!!! I'm new too!
