More aquariuns in Brazil!!

Belo Horizonte Zoological Park commemorating is 50 years build a Aquarium of the São Francisco River, displaying only species of this river.

The building tokes 3 years and have 2400 sqm and was build with 3 million U$ made avaiable by the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, that also owns the zoo.

Opening to visitors will be in February 2010.

The Aquarium is the biggest fresh water aquarium of Brazil.

In time: Belo Horizonte keeps the only Gorilla in South America. Is a male and they are trying for several years to get females. Howletts agreed to send 2 females for them last year but nothing happened till now. I dont know the terms of this transfer, but maybe this was a exchange with other animals and this dont happened due the strict rules of sending animals out of Brazil.

Acquario do CEará is the only that already started to sign contracts to start to build! But this not represents that the project will be concluded! This is Brazil and the Oceanarium will be run the the Ceara Government, very dangerous, since all zoos that are run by state in Brazil are in very very bad conditions in those days!
