Hi all,
my name is Chris, im 23 and live in Upton, Chester (10 min walk from Chester Zoo). I am starting my degree in zoo management next week at Chester Uni/Reaseheath. I have a personal collection of reptiles including lizards, tortoises and snakes though my personal favourite is my female False Water Cobra Hydrodynastes gigas. Anyway i found zoochat when looking for Chester Zoo pics from way back. I found SMR's polar bear pics from the mid 80's, great pics and great to see. When i was younger my grandad used to take me every weekend to Chester Zoo so is probably the reason for my love of the place now. Ideally once i get my degree i would beultimately aiming for a job at the zoo though i understand the job competition is fierce. I check zoojobs digest daily to get an idea of extra qualifications and experience needed. Any tips welcome though...
Thanks Chris

Chris, welcome to ZooChat. Keep your eye on the Chester section, especially for the events we organise with the zoo's curators. They're a great way to meet people and to see what goes on behind the scenes of the zoo.

I'm not sure I could live that close to the zoo, it'd be hard to get anything done!

Hiya Chris & welcome :O)

Good luck with the studies - Reaseheath have a nice little collection themselves. maybe see you on a tour sometime and around the zoo.
take it easy

Thanks, Reaseheath have got an amazing collection for a college, and growing all the time. i was there last year for an access to HE course. Also because they have only recently got their zoo licence the lectures have some interesting stories for example when the capybaras were delivered they were placed in a stable overnight... the next morning they returned to find a capybara shaped hole in a 2inch thick wooden door, needless to say that was there 1st and last night in a wooden stable!

cheers mate, i will do. i saw the reptile and amphib tour from july... im sick i didnt see it nearer the time :(
Welcome to the madhouse! You missed a very good day with the Reptiles and Amphibians that will not be repeat now that Richard Gibson has gone to New Zealand, before this one is attempted again we will have to wait for the new curator to be appointed.
