Hi everyone,:) i have been looking for such a kind of website for so long! I am from qingdao, china. I'm 22 years old, and i've been a zoo fanatic for more than 20 years! I'm so surprised that there really does exist such a website, and I'm looking forward to "zoochatting" with you guys! I also would like to improve my english here, so please tell me if i make mistakes!

Till September 2011, I have been living in china. Having witnessed how horrible a zoo in china can be, visiting a western zoo is one of my dreams.(visiting a western aquarium and visiting a western natural history museum are the rest of my dreams :D). Fortunately i will go to Boston to study as an exchange student for the coming academic year, so i finally get the chance to visit the zoos in USA.

I have traveled to some cities in china before, and the follows are the zoos i have visited so far:
Qingdao Zoo
Qingdao Forest Wild Animal World
Qingdao Bird Park
Beijing Zoo
Shijiazhuang Zoo
Jinan Zoo
Jinan Wildlife World
Shendiao Hill Wildlife Park
Shanghai Zoo
Shanghai Wild Animal Park
Hangzhou Zoo
Nanjing Zoo
Suzhou Zoo
aquariums:
Qingdao Underwater World
Qingdao Polar World
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
Shanghai Changfeng Park Ocean World
Beijing Oceanium

By the way, for the last 2 years, I lived in Shanghai, and I took many photos of Shanghai zoo. I want to upload them to the gallery, but I didn't find a catalog for this zoo, so how can i create one for it? Or should i just upload them to "china-other"?

Welcome!

When you come to Boston you will not be in the center of great US zoos, but you will have a fine aquarium to enjoy.
I expect you'll find your way south to the Bronx Zoo (you can do the entire trip by trains) and perhaps farther south to the National Aquarium (Baltimore, Maryland) and the National Zoo (Washington, D.C.)

Then you'll go crazy, abandon your studies, and just travel around looking at zoos :D

Thanks for informantion. Bronx Zoo, National Zoo, and many other zoos (San Diego, Columbus, Cincinatti, Omaha...) are on my list, but I probably won't see them all because of the budget and time.
As for Boston, I know New England Aquarium is famous, and I would definitely pay a visit to it, as well as Franklin Park Zoo & Stone Zoo, but neither of them seems to be a big one, pity.:( Maybe I should have applied for a university located in San Diego!:D

Hello i@zoochat , welcome to Zoochat , great to have a member from China .

I am enjoying looking at your Shanghai photos , particularly the snub-nosed monkeys , a wonderful species .

So you cannot get away from meercats , even in China , the zoo that does not exhibit them in the UK is a rarity !

Looking forward to hearing news about Chinese zoos , particularly native species , we do not get much of that .

Well, what may disappoint you is, though many chinese zoos keep pandas, snob-nosed monkeys or takins, many less famous native species can be rarely seen in zoos just because they're considered to be unpopular. That's one of the problems of chinese zoos—zoos are built just to amuse the public but not to protect, breed and exhibit the endangered species.

Welcome to ZooChat. It is great to have a zoo fan from your part of the world with us.

Most of us have no knowledge of Chinese zoos and from your list it looks like you have seen many of them.

Is there any chance that you could write up some reviews or descriptions of these zoos? What is the equivalent of the Bronx, Berlin, or San Diego Zoo in China...or is there not one? Maybe you could tell us what the best zoos are in China and what makes them the best?
