Flying High Bird Sanctuary in situated in Apple Tree Creek Queensland Australia about 3 1/2 hours north of Brisbane. We are the largest Free Flight Aviary in Australia covering over 2acres and reaching over 7metres in Height. We hose over 3000 birds in this enclosure ranging from Finch's throught to Macaws and Black Cockatoos. We have some stand alone enclosures inside the aviary that house birds that are not compatable along with additional aviaries outside in our grounds. The Main aviary is naturally planted to proved a natural thick rainforest like setting and incorporates over 400 metres of walking track.

We only took over the park 3 weeks ago and are in the process of bringing it up to a world class standard, we have also begun renovating some of the cages to improve viewing opportunities for our visitors. We have a large list of planed attractions including Raptors, additional aviaries that are planted and stocked with birds for the same area (eg South American, Asiatic, African, Australian etc etc), Soft Bill's, Emu's, Cassowary, Kangaroo's and Koala's. There will also be a huge open water bird attraction.

Have had a good look at the forum and there is some great discussions going on and some great photo's, we are looking forward to become part of the Zoo Chat family.

Matt. :)

My wife just read my post and pointed out a typo..... No we do not hose over 3000 birds, we house over 3000 birds.

Besides we have a sprinkler system that does that for us :D

Welcome Matt good to have another Queenslander here. Do you have a web site yet?

Welcome, Matt!

I'd be very interested to know what you've done since acquiring the park?

Hi,

we only took over 3 weeks ago so not as much as we would have wanted to :(

We have been concentrating on cleaning the place up and improving the diet first. we have now started to renovate some of the cages inside the main aviary as well as finishing a half bult small flight at the main gate.

I will keep every one up to date with the improvements.

Matt

Yep.

We have plans for a Cockatoo aviary which will be large enough to house colonies. We would love to get more of the red tails as we only have Samueli, we also have a pair of Gang Gangs on order but they are still a little time away. We would also love a Palm but that will almost be impossible.

As for the Macaws it will be hard to get the ones we want due to the lack of legally available birds and price  I would kill to have a Hyacinth on display but dont have that type of money plus the whole legality thing etc etc. Sorry getting off track. As for the display of these birds, we currently have a number on display in the main area but most are in our breeding complex. We are hoping to have it cleaned up (surrounding gardens etc) so we can start having tours for people who attend the Park. We also have plans on the drawing boards for another large walk thru aviary for the south american species. We will have everything from conures, quakers, macaws and as much bird life from the region possible, free flighing around our visitors heads :D

We want to have walk thru aviaries for different regions of the world so it is more educational for the visitors. We also plan to have Raptors etc etc..

Woops now I am giving all our secrets away :D:D:D
