Hello from France!

Hello!

I'm a French 16-years-old boy. Of course, I'm keen on zoos -what would I do here otherwise? Unfortunately, I visit zoos rarely because my family don't like it so much...

In my spare time I like creating fantasy zoos -just like a lot of people here on the forum I guess... I'm particularly interested in the conservation objectives of the zoos nowadays, and I would like them to develop their conservation actions even more in the future. In my opinion, zoos have to hold species that are either threatened or that can raise the visitor's awareness of the importance and the diversity of life -instead of being proud of their flagship animals which often aren't threatened at all.

Thanks for looking!

welcome spix :)
may I ask what's your closest zoo? I ask because I will be visiting a few french zoos in the the summer

Thank you!

I live in the South of France, and I've already visited the Réserve africaine de Sigean which is not so far from where I live. This is a safari park: you begin the visit in your car in several enclosures and then you reach the second part of the park, which is a 'normal' zoo. What I enjoyed the most during my visit was the huge enclosures of the antelopes -up to 10 hectares for one them I think! Moreover it's really hot and dry out there in summer, so it makes you feel a bit like if you were in Africa, which is quite nice for an African themed park!

I also know some other French zoos, which I've never visited however. You ought to visit the Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine, which is very interesting as far as conservation of species is concerned. The surroundings of this park are also very nice, since it was built in an old quarry: arguably one of the best French zoos. There's also Beauval and Amnéville which both have a lot of flagship species, Thoiry which looks a lot like Sigean but located in northern France, etc.

It all depends on what you're interested in and also on where you'll spend your holidays!

It should be great!
You could be a bit disappointed by the hiking zone of Sigean because there are several exhibits that are small and old, and there will be a lot of tourists probably -yes, I have to mention some bad things. But this is a good park overall!
I hope you'll enjoy your holidays in France! :)
