Hi guys, love this forum. I'm not a zoo owner or keeper but have a small collection of waterfowl and pheasants. Will I ever own a zoo? Some day :)

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. I look forward to reading your comments and opinions re the Irish collections.

Welcome to Zoochat; good to have another private aviculturist on board.
apart from Baham Pintail, whay else do you keep?

Welcome to ZooChat Matt. Good luck with owning your own zoo - many of us have the same dream (even though in some cases our teeth are getting longer).

I keep Bahama Pintails, Ringed teal, Mandarins, Carolina, European Wigeon, Greylag geese, Ruddy shelduck. I'm only young so the collection is small (1 or 2 pairs per species) but it will grow in time :) I also have some peafowl, silver pheasants and lady amhersts.

Thank you everyone

Nice collection of species. May I ask if you have good Amhersts in Ireland? [See recent discussion with VogelKommando]

There are some good quality birds but you have to know where to look, unfortunately most people who keep them see them in the same light as a domestic chicken, and they cross them with all sorts. Generally the birds that are seen at sales are beyond pathetic.

My pair are 2012 birds and I'm still waiting to see how they feather up, they're from quite a good breeder but I'll see how it goes.
