just got done watching the birth of the new Rhino in the Magdeburg Zoo.
Have waited for this event for over a week, and finally missed the very moment while I was in the shower.
Well, the baby looks great, but the maintenance of the "Stall", the very
construction leaves much to be desired. For the first 3 - 4 hours of it's life
the poor newborn tried desperately to coordinate its legs. Mission impossible. If anybody else watched this you must have felt sorry for the poor newborn, since every attempt it made towards getting up was doomed due to the slippery floor. At times the poor thing was lying flat on it's belly, with all for legs stretched out in all four directions. Have you
ever seen one of these toys where you push a button on the bottom and thenthe figure on top totally falls apart? That's what the little thing went through.WHY IS THE FLOOR, which has an incline,NOT CONSTRUCTED
WITH A SURFACE THAT PREVENTS IT FROM BECOMING SOMETHING LIKE
A SHEET OF ICE??? EVEN THE MOTHER HAD A VERY HARD TIME DEALING WITH THIS.
The birh took place around 4 AM, with nobody in attendance until shortly after 7 AM, when hey was thrown into the bottom half of the stall, at least
once hitting the mother right on the head. The top area remained slippery as before.I am new to this post. PLEASE, if you know how, forward this post to the responsible party in the zoo. It should be made known to the "HERR DIRECTOR"
Thanks for your help,
