Hello ZooChatters! I've been a lurker here for quite a few years but I've finally decided to make an account. I'm from Chile and I've been an animal nerd my entire life, with a particular affinity to birds and extinct creatures. Zoos have been my one of my favorite places to visit since I was seven, and I'm very intrigued for everything that happens in zoos behind-the-scenes. For many years I was a member of the Zoo Tycoon 2 fandom and its modding community, and recently I've moved on to Planet Zoo as well.

These days I find myself studying Biology at university, and hoping to pursue an academic major in Natural resources and environment. My current nature-related hobbies include exploring the nearby hills and forests of Santiago to catch a glimpse of the native flora and fauna, and help people close to me when they need to identify an animal or want to check any piece of info related to nature. I also spend much time with my three pet Cockatiels, and I'm a big geek of Star Wars, Tolkien books and Marvel comics.

I firmly believe that well-meaning zoos can be a positive contribution to conservation and education, and that they need to evolve to prove the naysayers wrong. I have a huge checklist of zoos I have to visit in my lifetime, but in the meantime I'd be happy to share in this forum!

Are you Star Wars fans or just memers? (I’m both) If you are a Star Wars fans I’d also want to know if you like the prequels.
I like Star Wars but I'm not a huge fan, not seen any of movies after The Last Jedi. Prequels are okay, I'd even go as far as to say Revenge Of The Sith is pretty good... :p

Ola estimado Chukaulorian,

Nice to have people from Chile on the Zoochat forum. I would especially be interested about nature conservation issues in Chile and how things are shaping up these days. It seems there is a good awareness of environmental issues despite development pressures.

Aside, it would be nice to have your perspective and regular updates on zoo news from the zoo community in Chile, notably Santiago and Buin Zoos.

BTW: Buin Zoo is involved with the Chiloe Island fox program. Santiago Zoo and its directorship are well versed in local conservation programmes as well as being administrative director for the ALPZA regional zoo association.

Love to hear from you!

Well I try my best to enjoy all the trilogies (consider me a prequel apologist), and I also love the animated series and Mandalorian.
The only piece of Star Wars media I don’t like would be the sequels. (I mean I can’t forgive them for killing Admiral Ackbar within the first five minutes. Plus it really wasn’t meaningful to the movie.)

Sure! I closely follow both zoos in social media, particularly Buin. I'm expecting to visit Buin Zoo in the coming weeks, the first time since before the pandemic, so I'm looking forward to see how it has changed in the meantime. I may even come up with a review of the zoo.
