I've been lurking on this site for the last couple of months, found it really helpful with all the zoo news about when things are opening up during this Covid crisis. So after a couple of months I finally decided to join the community.
A little about myself, I live in Omaha and frequent the Henry Doorly Zoo, usually making it there at least once a month, if not more (at least when covid wasn't around). Even though I grew up attending Henry Doorly a bunch, the zoo I was the most fond of was the Heritage Zoo in Grand Island, NE. This little zoo is not around anymore, but in my younger years my parents would almost take me and my brother everyday in the summer.
I've been to 18 zoos, animal parks, and aquariums, including a couple from around the world in my lifetime, and 19 if you include the Heritage Zoo. This number is sure to grow as my fiance, who is also an avid zoo lover, made a comment a couple months ago asking if we were going to be that couple that travels to zoos all over the country. Little did she know that sparked my interest greatly and we have since been able to hit some zoos safely the last couple of months. We have visited nine zoos near the Omaha area since things have begun to reopen, some of which I haven't been to in a decade or so. We've been able to visit the Kansas City Zoo, Dickerson Park Zoo, Blank Park Zoo, Riverside Discovery Center in Scottsbluff, Simmons Wildlife Safari, Lincoln Children's Zoo, Great Plains Zoo, Bramble Park Zoo, and of course the Henry Doorly Zoo.
The other establishments I have been to in my lifetime:
Heritage Zoo in Grand Island (Now Defunct circa 2001ish)
Denver Zoo
St. Louis Zoo
San Diego Zoo
San Diego Safari Park
Lincoln Park Zoo
Disney's Animal Kingdom
London Zoo
Ueno Zoo in Tokyo
Okinawa Chaurami Aquarium
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, I've enjoyed the news updates, as well as a lot of the photos, and this site has even helped me find small zoos that I never knew existed to add to my fiance and I's list to visit throughout our lifetime.
