Happy to see Henry Vilas has its own species list now! I don't think it is very important news anymore, but the zoo has two Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys off-show. They're elderly and I don't think they will ever be on exhibit again, but maybe they will replace them in the future?

Does anyone have any predictions for new species at the zoo?

There’s a pamphlet on the zoo’s poison dart frogs for certain volunteers and there is no mention of Strawberry Poison Dart Frogs. I think it’s safe to say the zoo doesn’t have these.

What poison dart frog species are listed? I figured the strawberry wasn't actually present but I don't exactly know which species are.

Dyeing, Blue, Green-and-Black, Bumblebee (Yellow-and-Black), & Golfodulcean.
I thought they didn’t have colobus, either. But apparently they’re trying to get more? I think? Certainly would be a nice break from all the lemurs.

They still have one colobus and plan on getting a second. They are just off-exhibit.

Somewhat related to that, the bat exhibit in the aviary is much better than the old one in the Discovery Center. The bats now have space to fly around, and do, compared to the Discovery Center where they just huddled together in a corner.

I should also mention that the zoo acquired new bats for the aviary (at least that’s what I was told). The ones in the Discovery Center are/were geriatric, which might explain why they were huddled in the corner so much. I also think the Discovery Center is off-limits so that the ferrets, bats, and sugar glider could retire and expire in peace.

I recall a Cane Toad, Cook's Tree Boa, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, Lemur Tree Frogs, and a few other species being in there as well. Where will they go? (I never saw the Lemur Tree Frogs, but I'd like to see the zoo open a new exhibit for them.) The living wall thing was also a neat display.

The ferrets were a fun species to exhibit, so it is a shame that people cannot see them anymore. I never saw the sugar gliders, so I will not miss them being on exhibit.

I never saw the Lemur Tree Frogs

Really? I saw them on around 50% of my visits. You had to really look for them though. Their natural terrarium was amazing and I loved the fact that both adults and tadpoles were present in the display. Henry Vilas is leading breeder of this Critically Endangered species.

Which is why I think it would be a shame to see them go! I think the zoo could easily revamp some of the enclosures in the Herpetarium to fit some new species. (Possibly turn one of the dart frog enclosures into a new lemur tree frog one?)
