We may be getting polar bear cubs. It appears they artificially inseminated Breit this past spring and is showing signs of denning. Here’s to hoping for cub(s).

We can only hope that she is pregnant! It would be amazing to see Berit have some cubs!
I remember a few years ago when I asked the Henry Vilas Zoo Camp Director (when I was at the Zoo Camp, obviously, haha) if the zoo planned on breeding anything. She responded with "Henry Vilas Zoo is more of a 'holding facility' for other zoos while they move around other animals for breeding." But now we've have Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur babies, Prairie Dog pups, Lion cubs, and hopefully Polar Bear cubs and Amur Tiger cubs soon.
Looks much more professional now.
It has 60 or so of its 115 species, so that is a pretty decent ratio.
The zoo doesn't seem to be planning on getting a new animal from the Giving Tuesday. But the zoo did recently get a new Polar Bear and two Amur Tigers, so I do not blame them. I don't know if there is a new animal they'd need.

Henry Vilas Visit Updates
• Yuri was out, it was my first time seeing the new tigers. Good thing they’re getting comfortable now.
• Ansel and Amboseli, the lion cubs, are approaching two years old. Any idea where they would go?
• The ostrich and barbado sheep exhibits still have “pardon our dust” signs on their exhibits
• One wooden box enclosure is still under construction, looks like they’ve been carving/molding the enclosure for something
• It said on the meerkat exhibit that some animals were out for medical reasons
• Paulie and Nacho, the zoos two Bearded Emperor Tamarins, have swapped spots with the GLTs in the Vet Center:
• Nuniq was out and looks well!
• The Black-and-White Ruffed Lemurs are not in one big group. As they cannot go outside either, the Ring-Tailed Lemurs were not on exhibit
• The old Green Tree Python exhibit is still being worked on
• The Zoo has more Lichenose Leaf-Tailed Geckos, the population jumped from one to four!

The zoo plans on keeping them with their parents for now. There are too many lions in AZA zoos at the moment, so they will have to wait for now until more space opens up for lions to be moved.
Very interesting. I did not know they had too many lions at the moment.
Any ideas on when the Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur babies will be moved out? They're basically the same size as their parents, and them not being able to be combined into one large group makes the rotation with the Ring-Tailed Lemurs difficult.
