Henson Robinson Zoo Henson Robinson Zoo News

A Brown-Headed Spider Monkey was born recently according to the zoo's Facebook. The monkey's gender is undetermined at this point, but will be named Holly if it's a girl, and Ruddy if it's a boy.

I just uploaded 65 new photos of this tiny Illinois zoo into the gallery.

It looks Very neat and tidy, and perfectly safe, but oh so boring! where's the keepers sense of imagination when it comes to furnishing the enclosures?

Just uploaded more photos for this zoo.

Some notes as of July 2015: the zoo sent its two male painted dogs to Brookfield for breeding and received Brookfield's four male dogs in return; there are currently no titi monkeys but the zoo is trying to get more, as well as a pal for the lone spectacled langur; the Asiatic black bear and wolverine were off-exhibit, much to my dismay; the zoo's two female river otters, who live in separate enclosures, apparently dislike one another and often stare at each other through the barrier in their holding house; the Australian walk-through had only the one wallaroo; and either I missed the sulcata tortoise and box turtles, or they are no longer there.

Interesting note: this zoo is no longer AZA accredited. Can't find anything online about losing accreditation, so not sure whether it was the zoo or the AZA who chose not to renew membership.

Why did they lose their AZA accreditation?

Grant already answered this in the post before your's:

26 Top-Tier Zoos and Aquariums Earn Meritorious AZA Accreditation This 2017 article states that Henson Robinson was one of 2 zoos that chose to let their accreditation expire and try to renew it in another 5 years. This zoo has a lot to work on, and likely knew they would not pass if they tried.

They lost it because they chose not to renew.

In the future, please read the posts about a particular topic so as not to ask questions that have already been answered... especially if they are right there on the same page.
