Hi all!

Hey folks. I posted a bunch of photos of the Orana Wildlife Park (Christchurch, New Zealand) in the photo gallery so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Jessie, from Alberta. I've lived here in Alberta my whole life, and am currently living in Edmonton. I'll be posting more pictures of other zoos in New Zealand, Australia, Alberta (Calgary, mainly), Minnesota and Washington, D. C. soon.

My life pretty much revolves around animals. I'm nearing the end of a Ph.D program in ecology, with my main interest being behavioral ecology and genetics. My thesis work is on collared pikas, which are adorable little critters that live in alpine areas of northwestern North America. I'm also looking at the evolutionary relationships among pikas and other lagomorphs (rabbits and hares). I also get to be the teaching assistant for a behavioural ecology course.

My husband and I sort have a "zoo" of our own. We have two dogs, two cats, two ferrets, two snakes (Ribbon Snake and Solomon Island Ground Boa), a Chinese Water Dragon, a chinchilla, a degu, four parrots (two lineolated parakeets, a Red lored Amazon and a Maroon-bellied Conure), and two button quail. Also, we foster animals for rescues and we have a bunny, a dog, and a Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo in our (foster) care. Actually, the rescue we help is co-run by another member here (Devon) who referred me here!

I write for a couple parrot magazines too. If I'm not doing my thesis (on animals), teaching (about animals), caring for and training my personal pets animals, I'm probably out birdwatching, at a parrot club meeting, or riding (someone else's) horse!

So, I always look forward to meeting other animal lovers!

Hello to Jessie and Rachnos, I have been a member for a while, but haven't logged on or posted for ages!

Hi Jessie, nice to meet you.
I'm doing an Ecology degree at the moment, I'm only in the first year of my BSc though. Your work on pikas sounds interesting.
