Hi, everybody!!!!!

Hello everyone, I have been reading and following your forum discussions for a long time now and i've found so many animals in your discussions that i'm interested in, especially on the "Animals you'll never see in a zoo" forum. I am only twelve years old so, i'm probably the youngest one up here. At first I didn't decide to join because I thought that there were only European and Australian fans up here, but anyway I am very excited to be up here. I am saving up on traveling to zoos worldwide when I get older, but right now I trying to get through my USA zoos that I want to visit. I also want to be an animal importer or an exhibit designer when I grow up. I am interested in African and Asian Mammals. Thanks for reading!

Welcome Potto, Glad to have you here, we do have a few young zoo fans here, There have been a number of people from the US and Canada joining the forum lately

Welcome to the forum!

I am one of the young ones on here as well (16, so just a bit older than yourself) so you are definately not alone ;)

Do you have a favourite zoo/animal?

Hello, I was only just thirteen when I joined (nearly 14 now), But the information is all very useful and interesting....

Good, to get some more American Members,

Enjoy this fabulous resource!!

For the US my favorite zoo is San Diego and my favorite animal is probably the Dibatag, I don't think there are any in captivity though.

There are 2 photos of the Dibatag in the book "Walker's Mammals of the World". Type in "Google Book Search" and then put in Dibatag and you'll see "Walker's Mammals of the World- Page 1196" and it'll show you 2 photos on the second page, or I may just post them.

For outside the US, just by reading and looking up the species on isis my favorite zoos will probably be between Berlin, Cologne, Singapore, London and Johannesburg zoos. Same with San Diego Zoo/ Wild Animal Park just by looking up its interesting species I can tell it'll be one of my favorite zoos when I visit it this summer!

Hi,

The "collection" is not everything when it comes to a modern zoo. "Animal importer" will set You way on top of the black list of animal right activists worldwide...;)

Enjoy San Diego.

Hi Potto
Yes that selection of zoos looks pretty good. When I was your age I too wanted to see lots of rare animals so I understand that completely.

Have you read Gerald Durrell's books? I am sure you would enjoy them although it's not the way things are done these days. I don't think there are that many animal importers these days, there is more co-operation between zoos with the exchange of captive born animals and country/continent wide breeding programmes, and the importation of animalsfrom the wild usually requires governmental approval and there is a lot of red tape.
