Hi from a new member in the UK

Hello everyone and a Happy New Year to you all!

I have been visiting this site for a while now and have found the posts very interesting / informative.

I love animals and enjoy taking photos of them, so zoos afford me that luxury. My local zoo is Marwell and I have visited there many times. My most recent visit to a zoo was to Whipsnade last week.

My real passion is for gorillas and I am fortunate to live within an hour of Chessington and London. I am not particularly well travelled, but I have managed to visit the gorillas at Howletts, Port Lympne, Paignton, Bristol, Twycross, Blackpool and Jersey, as well as San Diego (both the zoo and the wild animal park), Los Angeles and Loro Parque. This year I will be visiting Fuengirola Zoo whilst on holiday.

I have also visited a lot of other animal collections in the UK over my 35 year life, and have seen a lot of changes to animal enclosures.

So, now you know a bit about me!

Hello Marie, welcome to zoochat hope you will enjoy yourself on the forum, you are in good company here a few major gorilla lovers on this site.

Maybe you could do a review of your Whipsnade visit last week?

Thank you for your kind words. I may well add a review of Whipsnade onto that forum. I am also in the process of uploading some of my photos.

Yes, I agree that Marwell is a good zoo. I have seen it change immensely during my lifetime as I have lived closeby to it for most of my life and have visited there since I was a child. I remember when visitors had the option to drive round the zoo if they wanted to, and my friend's dad did that when we visited for her 7th birthday!! The enclosures have improved so much in recent years and are a lot more open and spacious. The giraffe walkway is great for the visitor to see the giraffes at their best in the paddock. I really enjoy my visits there.

Yes, they do!! I am finding that the Zoochat members have a wealth of information. This is a great place to share ideas.
