Hi,

I found this site some weeks ago and it's nice to see zoo lovers from all over the world meeting each other.

Since I live only 15 minutes driving away from Rotterdam, you can guess where my favourite zoo is located ;)

Welcome to ZooChat, an amazing site and resource!

welcome elly, cant help but be jealous of you europeans being so close to so many great zoos.

Look forward to reading your experiances.

All thanks for the welcome!

Yep, in the Netherlands we are really in a great position of visiting different zoos. Though I'm a BIG Blijdorp fan (Rotterdam zoo), I plan on visiting Avifauna (specialized in birds only) and Burgers' zoo in the coming weeks as well.
What I like is that every zoo in the Netherlands offers a complete different "zoo-experience", so if you are a zoo-fan you really need to visit every zoo and the other catch is that most zoo's are only an hour traveling away.

Must be very lucky being some many zoos near you, always wondered what it would be like if you could just walk to a zoo from your house, but I'm sure very few few people live that close ;) great to have you on board,

I used to live next door to a zoo. You could hear the gibbons every morning and the bald eagles in the evening. Elly have fun on your short zoo tour.

Burgers Zoo is a big suprise. It really is fantastic. All except for the orangs and l think there are were some gibbons in there as well. Made my first visit to Burgers March this year. Will be back soon.

I think it's very interesting how this came about, probably very organicly as well.

ARHEM'S BURGERS' ZOO
ARTIS ZOO
BEEKSE BERGEN SAFARI PARK
EMMEN ZOO

Hi,

Wassenaar zoo doesn't exist anymore, and you missed the following zoos (at least the zoos that are EAZA zoos):

Ouwehands Dierenpark
Dierenpark Amersfoort
Aqua Zoo Friesland
Dierenpark Wissel
Dierenrijk
Dolfinarium Harderwijk
Zoopark Overloon
Avifauna

I'll get back on the "zoo-experience" later.

Hi when did WASSENAAR ZOO go?

So thats 16 zoos. You are soooo dam lucky and you could ride a bike to all of them ;]

Hi when did WASSENAAR ZOO go?

Wassenaar zoo was closed down in 1985. During the mid 80-ties times were hard on all the zoos. They discussed closing down Rotterdam zoo during that time as well. Fortunally in this case the city of Rotterdam stepped in financially.
