Hello everyone!
I realized just now that I neglected to do any kind of intro post and just got to posting - my bad! Let me properly introduce myself here. All my life I’ve been interested in zoos and especially aquaria, and I made my first visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA as an infant (only a few months old, I believe). I’ve lived in that area my whole life and my family often had memberships at AOP, SeaWorld San Diego, the California ScienCenter, etc. I loved visiting aquariums more than any other hobby as a kid - they’ve always been my happy place, if you will. I maintained my interest in aquaria well through my high school years, while I volunteered at the Shark Lab at CSU Long Beach. I also was able to hatch a shark egg in my high school marine biology class with some generous assistance from the good people of the AOP veterinary office, and returned the healthy baby whitespotted bamboo shark there. I ultimately got my BS degree in Marine Biology from CSU Long Beach, and now am working towards paying employment in the aquarium field after spending time volunteering at AOP and currently taking courses at the Orange Coast College Dennis Kelly Aquarium. I’ve also long been passionate about science education due to my mom’s many years of service as an elementary school teacher, and that’s what I do for paying work now, including working in a grade school marine biology field trip program for the County of Los Angeles. I do my best to visit a new aquarium or see an old one again every time I travel, and I also have been working on a survey of shark and ray species at global aquaria as a personal research project. My dream is to someday even open a new facility of my own!
Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming, and I hope to talk with you all more soon.
