Highland Wildlife Park Highland Wildlife Park News 2020

Has anyone heard any news regarding the Amur leopard cubs born in 2018? I know that they have been kept away from people regarding plans to release them, but I'm not even sure the sex of the cubs was announced... and at 2 years of age they would surely be approaching an appropriate age for release?

Have you forgotten about the infamous bears of the world, being built at Chester got to be open soon, as the source for that gem was such a re liable person.

im not sure what u mean by this. Bears of the world was a load of complete rubbish and we all know this. Signs at Yorkshire did state that Rasputin would be moving over to join the other bears. And it now also seems having looked in the Yorkshire thread that Hamish will be moving there.

He means that Bears of the World was complete rubbish, but also that Rasputin won’t be moving over there now. Plans change: a place has been found for him to meet a breeding female. With Victor’s death there is now space for Hamish to join the three lads; so the other bear enclosure currently housing Rasputin probably will house a different bear species or....a female polar bear?

I had a fantastic visit to HWP yesterday, I wish I lived a lot closer than I do, it really is an amazing place!

The Przewalski's herd was split into 3 groups, main group in was in the main reserve, approx 4 stallions were in the first reserve as you enter the park, and 2 mares were in paddock behind the wildcat area, with a sign advising that one of them will soon be moving to another UK collection.

There was building work going on at the tiger house, it looked like they were putting an extension on, perhaps this needs to be done before the male from Whipsnade can be moved?

A male Bison calf is out on the main reserve:

To be exact: it is an European bison calf.

Also worth noting that with one of the largest European bison herds in zoos, the Highland Wildlife Park is actively involved in reinforcing existing and new wildland herds. Last year 2 cows were sent to a Spanish reintroduction project and one of these has already given birth to a new calf there!
