if you look on the twitter for twycross, the snow leopards arrived today
"the two snow leopards have arrived today, from Tokyo and Sweeden, the public will be able to see them next week as they are settling in "

well it says that you can see them next week and the new building thingy wont be open by then so surely they will be in some other random enclosure???

Sorry to jump in here but wasn't it mentioned they would be held in the old Lion enclosure until the new one was ready?

Thats not happening now it will be a covered enclosure!!

They are not covering the Lion enclosure to put the Snow Leopards in,just go and find out which enclosure they are using lets just say it was already holding something which it was designed for!!!
I'm tired and may be missing something obvious, but I can only think of the Chimp enclosures (Danny & Tommy used to be there) on the main path which are sturdy enough and fit the bill.
However, on second thoughts, maybe the Amur Leopard enclosure is currently empty?

Been to Twycross today, Himalaya is partially open although the food court (It pretty much is a food court) and the two exhibits are not yet complete and open. I have to say that it is pretty spectacular, it's finished to a really high level and the exhibits are huge. The snow leopard exhibit stretches the entire length of the building with a huge glass window forming the wall separating cafe from exhibit. The changes to the parking and entrance are also a massive improvement. If this is the standard that Twycross aspires to with all it's new developments it's going to be pretty exciting to watch over the next 10 years.
There is still quite a bit to do to the exhibits, they were pumping water in to the waders exhibit and still constructing walls and rock formations in the snow leopards exhibit today so I think it will be some time yet before any animals are in. The snow leopard exhibit is full of huge boulders built up to quite a height at the back with a large pool and quite a few large trees. There is a kind of themed facade in front of the off-show area but it looks classy rather than some of the tacky theming you see sometimes. It's huge as well.
Well on friday hopefully I can report some more on whats happened this week. I kind of get why theyve opened it, but it kind of is goin gto be slightly pointless given the animals arent in the exhibit and the cafe isnt open. They should have held off until they could open the centre fully, although I am keen to see what it is like anyway. It does sound impressive and looks huge. I visit fortnightly so it I am excited to see it. What is the ticketing like and the parking? Do you go through a new ticket entrance which is inside the centre?
You park down in the third field and then walk up to the centre, I parked on gravel today rather than the grass that everyone moans about. Anyone can get in the centre without paying to go in the zoo, you walk though the centre and there is a glass window to view the snow leopard enclosure as well as ticketing booths on the other side. You might find the cafe open on Friday because it looked finished, it was just the animal exhibits that didn't. If the interior is finished then I guess they may as well be using it, I don't think they'll really get going on the PR until it's all all complete though. They were erecting fencing in the car park still as well today and planting up the roof of the centre. If you're a regular to Twycross you'll find it pretty amazing, it's on another level to anything else and I hope it's a sign of things to come.
Been to Twycross today and into Himilaya and it is actually well worth the wait. Inside the eating area is huge with a coffee bar, all over looking an absolubtly massive snow leopard enclosure. I was talking to one of the managers of the centre and was told that the the centre is fully open from tommorow, however the snow leopards wont be going in until may as it is still being landscaped. The enclosure is great and spans the whole lenght of the building, all glass fornted with flat rocks which will be heated undert he sun so they are always visible if they want, with caves away for them to hide. On the other side there is the wading birds enclosure which you can see from one side, near to pets at Twycross, with inside near the toilets there is going to be a section whereby the water laps up against the glass which i thought was pretty cool. There is also to be leaf cutter ants going around in tubes as well! The guy I spoke to said this is the direction the zoo is heading towards now, with the elephant walkway and carnivore section next on the list. Its not tacky like most themed exhibits, its quite the opposite. This is a great move for Twycross and I hope the rest of the zoo goes in this direction.
