Twycross Zoo Himalaya Opening Date

There is nothing worse than that, it always bother me when people bang the glass, shout at or impersonate animals.

I nearly had a stand up fight once at monkeyworld as two young couples were winding up one of the males in the batchelor group (when they used to be in the orang enclosure) to the point it had a fear grin, was throwing itself at the fence and smacking itself in the head. I explained to them calmly the fact that the animal had a troubled background and etc, yet they still continued after i eventually walked off. (as they were getting aggressive). Luckily i found a keeper and they had a word.

I dont know why if you have no compassion or love for animals why you would even bother going to a zoo:confused: (but anyway gone off at a tangent!:D)

I think basically zoos should have a code of behaviour that all visitors should comply to. And if someone is found to braek this by banging on the glass or shouting, impersonating or feeding the animals then they should risk being asked to leave.

We need a zoo police!:eek::D

Most people will not bang on the glass etc, however there are an ignorant minority who will and there is nothing to stop this. Also even if it was an open exhibit with a moat etc there is nothing stopping someone shouting to them.

Yes and Twycross seem to have more than their fair share of the ignorant minority than any other zoo in the UK that I visit regularly!!

Yeah there odoes seem to be alot there. Thats why I like to avoide the place in the peek on summer and at weekends. Going to renew my membership at the end of august/very start of sept so the schools have gone back.
 
this is basically an advertisement but it was on the news feed so just thought I'd post it [is the remark about the aviary being one of the largest in the UK correct?]

During break times clients are invited to take a stroll around the zoo to see some of the fascinating animals on show. As an alternative they can watch the snow leopards in their naturalistic Himalayan themed enclosure within the building.

Within the grounds of Twycross Zoo there are three additional conference areas available for hire. For prestigious meetings in an unusual setting why not try Norton Grange, the former home of Twycross Zoo founders Molly Badham and Nathalie Evans. This room has been lovingly restored and refurbished so that fourteen delegates can enjoy the luxurious facilities of a private entrance and foyer in this peaceful location overlooking the zoo and gardens. If required a wide selection of fine dining and waitress service can be provided.

The Gorilla Outpost sits in the heart of the Zoo and is located adjacent to the Zoo’s collection of gorillas and lemurs. This is a large spacious room seating up to 120 delegates.

The Napier Centre is the ideal location for smaller conferences or large meetings. This venue is next to our impressive elephant walkway. Seventy delegates can enjoy the calm surrounding in this quite area of the Zoo.

Twycross Zoo is conveniently situated between Birmingham and Nottingham and is located just off Junction 11 of the M42. Nottingham East Midlands Airport is just 16 miles away and Birmingham International Airport just a little further at 22 miles. Car parking is free for anyone visiting the Zoo or Himalaya.

Whats the point of the wader exhibit being exclusive to the room room. Makes it seem even more likly that this was specified by the funding s Twycross has never built an exhibit that the public cant see. Unless you can see from the toilets as there is a window overlooking it.
 
The plan is that you will be able to view the Wader Aviary from the windows in the toilets,as for it being 1 of the largest in the UK that is probably correct,I would guess that Chester(Europe on the Edge),London(Snowden),Living Coasts,Paigntons(Walk through) and Edinburgh(African) Aviarys are all bigger at a guess I would also say that Chester Zoos Condor Aviary is bigger than Twycross`s new Wader Aviary as well.

This isnt now happening as there is frosted glass on the toilet windows, well there is for the mens side anyway so you cannot view into the aviary

MT, I gather this was just while the works were going on. So that construction workers were not peering in while you took a pee!

Is the aviary finished then? and is this frosting still there?
 
I was told that when the aviary is finished the frosting come soff so that you can see the waders exhibit from the windows in the toilets. The water is meant to come up the window a certain degree so that 'waves' lap against it. Im gueessing it was designed in such a way because of funding stipulations. aka as Twycross didnt pay they had to do the aviary this way.

Well its suppose to be a New England themed Aviary but if the Bornean Longhouse Aviary is anything to go by don`t expect to see many species from New England in it!
 
I do hope the toilet plumbing and the wading pool plumbing don't get confused.

Messy!

Reminds me of the water tank/fish tank idea someone had a few years back....
