Through some research I found out what happened to the Nile Hippo at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo but what happened to the Pygmy Hippo and Malayan Tapirs ?

Because of your location I know your talking about Cleveland and the answer is that they were moved to other zoos.Cruze went to a zoo in Florida and Nicole to Virginia. We are not sure about where the zoo's pygmy hippo or the warthogs went.Originally Cleveland was going to keep Hippos as part of the zoo in its new exhibit Elephant Crossing but due to budget constraints had to cut it.This is the only aspect of the project that we don't like being that we are big hippo fans.Hopefully some day they'll bring them back.

Thanks for the info, I'm disappointed there is something wrong about a zoo without hippos. Of course it wouldn't be the first time the cleveland zoo disappointed me. I have been a member of the zoo zoological society for about 20 years now and grew up in the area but it seems cleveland could do it better ( no bird building for 1, really?) I really prefer Toledo even though it's a bit of a drive it's worth it. They really have their act together.

With all the room the Cleveland zoo has why couldn't they just put the Malayan Tapirs and warthogs somewhere else in the zoo? Why get rid of different species the bigger the verity the better. I thought the Elephant Crossing was lame.

This pretty much leaves Toledo as the only zoo in Ohio with hippos. I'd guess that that will change as Cincinnati and Columbus have plans for new hippo exhibits down the road.

Yeah, I've also seen blackie, although a lady at the zoo told me zoo staff were planning to remove the divider from the giraffe barn once he dies.
