This person also has recent photos of the zoo. Some cool photos in that set are of the Golden Monkey, of Caesar (silverback gorilla that died in 2004), of the penguins (in the Koala House), and of Billy when he was young.

In 1984 when we had Pandas (Yun Yun and Ying Xin), the zoo also exhibited a pair of Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys. I think they stayed at the zoo for a couple of years.

"Penguins in the Koala House?" Never! The Koala House was never used as a Penguin Exhibit, and the photo in question is definitely not at the L.A. Zoo. As one who was at the premiere viewing of the Koala House, it was built specificly for the display of Australian animals; other than the recent display of Spiders and for a short time Dinosaurs! ...Animatronic ones of course.:(

They have exhibited Penguins in the past(Humboldt and Cape), but always outdoors in the Aquatics Section, like the current Chinese Alligator exhibit.

Thanks for the correction. When I first saw the photo I wasn't sure if it was really at the LA Zoo, so I asked the guy and he said he was sure that he took it at the LA Zoo. I guess he got confused.

Very confused. He must have been on a tour of California and gotten his photos mixed-up. And although I'd very much like to see a state-of-the-art Penguin exhibit at the L.A. Zoo someday(my youngest son's favorite animal), there has never been anything like that shown in the photo here in the past, and I've been consistantly going to this zoo since 1966. Probably is Sea World.

I had the privilege this past Oct. '08 to visit the Saint Louis Zoo and its much discussed Lichtenstein Penguin Exhibit. Aaahhh, maybe here one day.
