ZooDoo Wildlife Park Hobart Zoo & Aquarium [ZooDoo Wildlife Park] news

Imagine having a spare 3.75 million $

didnt know Nat' and DD were up for sale wow
I don't think National is up for sale in any formal way.

Just the owner said they would consider offers, which pretty much applies to any business anywhere.

Yes, this article details the National Zoo’s situation:

Long-time owner Richard Tindale says the National Zoo and Aquarium is discussing either a partnership or all-out purchase with “some big players from Sydney”, including property company Savills Australia.

But as @MRJ and the article notes, they’re basically considering offers at this stage.

Darling Downs Zoo going on the market is mentioned here: Popular local attraction for sale I Australian Rural & Regional News

Four Swift Parrots have fledged at the ZooDoo bring the colony up to ten individuals. The zoo aim to open a dedicated breeding centre for the species - reported on social media.

Id be interested to see how they keep them. From what im aware of, which is very limited with swifts. They are more a 1 pair per aviary type species unless they have a huge aviary for them. There was a guy selling last years young not to long ago not to far from where I am.

I would of thought being down where they are. Orange bellied parrots would be more a species to go into.

@Tiger91 I saw the flock in December with some of the young chicks all together - a humble but pleasant display.

That looks like a nice display, they are a beautiful species.
It's interesting that when it comes to migrating species, the ones like rainbow lorikeets and budgies that seem, for the most part, adapt at giving up migratory ways to live in urbanised spaces. Have done well while species like the swifts and orange bellies have had drastic declines.

Good call on the name. ‘ZooDoo’ always made me think of the bags of manure zoos sell comprised of the dung of various ungulates. Rebranding will help put them on map, with the new name at least identifying their location.

It’ll be good to have two founder Cheetah imported into the region. If both male, there may not be long term breeding plans however. Plenty of zoos have imported a pair of bachelor males from South African before.

All fantastic news. Any indication of when for the aquarium?

HI can we start a new Thread for Hobart Zoo & Aquarium?

One of the short-beaked echidnas at the zoo is a 7 month old, approx' 0.7 kg (almost certainly Tasmanian ssp.) named Frodo. The keepers are not sure yet whether Frodo is a female or a male as is apparently hard to tell with younger echidnas: Hobart Zoo & Aquarium on Instagram: " Meet Frodo – our remarkable young echidna! At just 7 months old and weighing only 700 grams, Frodo is still keeping us in suspense about whether “he” is a he or a she (echidnas are famously secretive when it comes to sexing at this age!).
