Hogle Zoo Hogle Zoo News

Things haven't been so good this week. A elderly Sand Cat was euthinized, and a Markhor died after sparring with another male.

In addition to the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra and Bornean Orangutan, the zoo has received 1.0 Black-Footed Cat named Ryder from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park as well as 1.0 Red Panda named Mow Mow from the Binder Park Zoo. With the arrival of Mow Mow, the zoo's other pair of Red Pandas have moved on to the Hemker Park Zoo. The zoo is hoping to receive a female to breed with Mow Mow before the next breeding season. Does Ryder's arrival mean the former Black-Footed Cats, Ali and Sanura, have passed on?

The Hogle Zoo introduced a new female Amur Tiger today. Sasha is two years old and hails from the Rolling Hills Zoo. The article mentions Sasha and Nikolai may be bred in the future as she matures.

Interesting news. Rolling Hills Zoo had stated that Sasha was to be transferred to Bramble Park Zoo when they announced that she and her sister Nadya were leaving the zoo last month. And last I heard Bramble Park's resident tigress Ursula was to be transferred to Hogle. I guess plans changed... Nikolai is a genetically valuable male and Sasha is slightly more valuable and much younger than Ursula so hopefully Nikolai and Sasha have cubs in the future.

Concerning the Amur Leopards: does anyone know if Jilin moved to Central Florida Zoo in 2020, and have the cubs born in 2020 - Storm and Skye - moved to other zoos?

Skye moved to the Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas and is paired with a male named Lev who was born at the San Diego Zoo in April 2020. I'm not sure if Storm has already moved to another zoo.

Jilin is at the Central Florida Zoo, paired with a male named Temur who was born at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois in July 2016.

From the February 2017 litter, Roman is at the Pittsburgh Zoo in Pennsylvania and Rafferty is at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in New York. Rafferty is a father of two cubs born in June 2019: daughter Mina is at the Brookfield Zoo and son Milo is at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Kansas.

Utah's Hogle Zoo introduces two amur leopard cubs

Melanie Kuse, Asian Highlands Animal Care Supervisor said “we are excited to introduce these special cubs to the public. These cubs have proven to be more independent than other cubs we have had in the past – they started walking and eating meat sooner than some of our other cubs, and Zeya continues to be an attentive and excellent mother.”

In a statement, the zoo said this was Ziva’s third birth and according to Michelle Olandese, Animal Care Supervisor, "Ziva is an experienced mother which means she does what comes naturally without much staff help.”
