Mary and Pele will now join Hogle Zoo’s troop, a tight-knit crew that’s made up of three gorillas: Husani (31-year-old male), Jabali (18-year-old female), and Georgia (nearly two-year-old daughter of Husani and Jabali).

Looks like Hogle better hurry up with the Primate expansion on their Master Plan, 'cause their Ape population has grown the last couple years...

Presumably the zoo will be looking at breeding from the younger female in the future, though the priority appears to be adding females to the troop following the death of Jabali’s mother in February.

Mary has given birth to six infants (four surviving) between 1998 and 2016; while Pele has given birth to two - a stillborn in January 2014; and a surviving male in December of that same year.

Poppy gave birth to a healthy male foal on July 23rd, and the pair are now on habitat.

Hogle Zoo on Instagram: "If you thought you had a long pregnancy, Poppy the zebra has you beat. After a 12-month wait, the birth of an 87-pound male zebra was safely captured on camera at Utah’s Hogle Zoo! The healthy arrival happened July 23, 2022, at approximately 3 a.m. We are so lucky to have this video showing the natural birthing process, thanks to our high-definition cameras donated by the Mariner S. Eccles Foundation and Backstreet Surveillance, Inc. Come see Poppy and her new baby, also called a foal, at the zoo’s African Savanna exhibit starting today, August 1, 2022. ✨His name will be selected through a public online auction option this week, through Friday August 5, 2022. On August 16th, the zoo announced its name, Corkeey.

The Reticulated giraffe calf has been named Reyna:

Newest resident at Utah’s Hogle Zoo gets name, welcomes visitors | Gephardt Daily

Reyna is the first calf for Stephanie, the zoo’s 4-year-old reticulated giraffe, and the seventh and final offspring of Riley, a male giraffe and 17-year zoo resident who died in December 2021.

Reyna joins the zoo’s herd of reticulated giraffes that includes mother Stephanie; Minka, a 5-year-old female; and Ja Raffe, a nearly 2-year-old male.

Here's a more in depth article, in which Hogle says that elephants could return to the zoo at some point, depending on a new Master Plan they're working on.

I'm sad to see them go, but I know it's for the best. And I hope that the zoo can build a better exhibit to house them if they return.

While sometimes it's a bit unfortunate to see zoos no longer showcase elephants, in this case I wholeheartedly applaud the decision. 'Elephant Encounter' opened in 2005 but in a shockingly short period of time it became far too small and outdated. Shifting the zoo's elephants to a warmer climate (hopefully!) and into a large herd environment makes perfect sense.

This was Ziva’s fourth successful birth at the zoo. The new foal joins the zoo’s herd of Ziva (mother), Scooby (father), Zibby (female), Poppy (female), Bryce (female) and Corkeey (male).

The new boy is the zoo's eight calf. Hogle has zoo has been quite successful with this species considering they were brought into the collection just in 2014. The calves definitely add some needed excitement to the African Savanna exhibit.
