I'm going to be in Singapore for a week. 13th of June until the 21st. I will definitly be going to the zoo, night safari and the bird park. I might even jump the fence while I'm at the zoo and have a look around the new river safari.

Does anyone know of any guided bird watching tours in Singapore?

Hi boof, you can try Nature Society of Singapore. They run regular nature tours including bird watching. They have a marshland bird watching tour on 19 June, click on the link to find out more.

I have a better suggestion, why don't you jump the fence at the River Safari mammal holding compound (inside the zoo), you might just see the raccoon dogs, wolverines, black sakis, tapirs and more! :)

so the wolverines have arrived already? (rubs hands together in eager anticipation)

Thanks for the link Zooish. I will send them an email.

Chlidonias, thanks for the PM. I think a couple of hours at Sungei Buloh wetland reserve sounds like a good idea. I will have to pick up a guide book on singapore/Malaysian birds.

That's what I've heard, a pair of them. Although there hasn't been any official news release from Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

excellent. I'm more excited about the wolverines than the boring old pandas.
:)

Sorry I haven't been posting. I am using a borrowed lap top at the moment and it is giving me some grief!!

I had a great trip. It was hot and humid and i loved it. The zoo, bird park and night safari were great days/night but a bit long for my daughter. It was school holidays in Singapore so the park were busy.

I took a trip out to Sungei Buloh on one of the days. I went by myself, my wife and daughter stayed in the air conditioned shopping centres. Thanks for the advice about this place. I seen a heap of birds out there as well as a crocodile and a squirrel.

The highlight for me were probably a pair of Sundra pygmy woodpeckers, a scarlet backed flowerpecker and a stork billed kingfisher.

Zoo animal highlights were barbirusa, toco toucans and the baboons exhibit .

Those where the highlights? From a European ZooChatters' point, you got to be kidding...:D

Good to hear you had a great time! I'd love to go see Singapore someday...

You saw the croc! I know for an Aussie seeing a salty is no big deal, but you do need some luck to see the one at Sungei Buloh. :D

Did you catch sight of the Smooth otters?

Jwer, anything that isn't a red panda or meerkat is exciting for an aussie:)

Zooish, I spotted the croc from the bridge. It only put it's head up for a minute. Me and one other person ran to a little clearing on the bank and I managed a couple of photos before it disappeared. I missed out on the otters. I think I would have seen a thousand red eared sliders. They are everywhere in Singapore.

pigmy woodpeckers are great aren't they? Always a highlight of any day.

Yeah, they've become a serious pest species. Generations of dumped pets have thrived and (over)populated almost every water body in Singapore.
