On November 19th, it was reported that the zoo acquired
10 'anianiau (species of Hawaiian honeycreeper) to set up a captive breeding population for the species which are off-show. It was also reported that the zoo is constructing a new climate-controlled building for native birds.

On November 22nd, the zoo announced that due to concerns with avian influenza (the first report in the state happened a week prior) they moved several bird species into enclosed aviaries, and closed the walk-through aviary in the Savannah area.
