Bono, a 37-year-old male White-handed Gibbon has arrived from Santa Barbara Zoo. He will soon be introduced to Japan, their 48-year-old female gibbon - reported on their FB page.

Seems like the introductions went well, for the two gibbons are now on display together.

The “Barn” in the Keiko Zoo reopened recently. The main highlights are a new and improved guinea pig habitat, and a couple new species of snails in the “Native Hawaiian Snail Lab” section.

Especially nice to see ... that the Honolulu Zoo is broadening its conservation work with local native species and an often easily overlooked animal species order at that!

BTW: The zoo already has a small facility for native butterflies!
