Wow that was fast! By the gist of the news report, it doesn't seem like the city's government manages the zoo very well.
Its about time. Hawaii likes their local people, but I wonder what experience they are referring to in the article.
Honolulu Zoo has been added to google earths street view. Gives those of us who cant go to Hawaii a chance to tour the zoo. Heres a link to lead you to it hopefully.

What in the world is going on out there in Honolulu?
I have heard that there are issues associated with the zoo being public. Idk if it's state or city run but I'm sure they give more attention to other tourist attractions. This zoo would be fantastic if they got its act together.
The male lion cub is moving to Cameron Park Zoo in Texas. His sisters are staying in Hawaii.

A Common Chimpanzee escaped from its enclosure yesterday (June 24th) afternoon, but was quickly contained within 15 minutes.

One of the female hippos, Rosey, was found dead. The Zoo hopes to get another female as a companion for the remaining hippo Louise.

Swung by the zoo today, lots of interesting news.
The zoo has a new pair of Andean Cock of the Rocks, along with a new family of Superb Starlings, a new pair of Red Crested Touracos, a new Argus hen, and some trades of Golden White Eyes and Raggiana Birds of Paradise.
The lone hippo was just placed back on exhibit today, she looked alright but honestly seemed a bit glum, she was vocalising quite a bit as well.
I'll have pictures uploaded to the gallery shortly.
