Horrific but amazing scene occur in front of my eyes. Right before I left the zoo I wanted to see the elephants one more time. While watching them I heard some one say there was a rhino fight going on so once I turned to see the rhino/zebras exhibit the first thing I saw was the zebra herd(including 2 foals born in the spring) running across the dusty paddock. Then I went for a closer look to see 2 rhinos fighting head to head. At first I thought it was 2 males fighting for dominance and it was obvious that the smaller one was trying to get away and less dominate. Then the smaller rhino ran away around the exhibit a few times and through the mud pool. The bigger rhino hook the other one and cause a slash over its rib. Now when it was running away the baby rhino was running with the smaller one and then the bigger rhino turned it attention to him. This cause me think it was the male attacking the mom and was trying to get to the calf this whole time. The huge male rhino was chasing the baby rhino instead so the other 2 female rhinos came in to protect the calf. Then the bigger rhino kept on switching its attention to the mom and the calf. Then the bigger rhino hook the baby and started throwing him in the air. I was so scared for the baby's safety now more than ever. This was when the other two females knew that mom needs help protecting the calf so then near the rhino feeding platform the females corralled the baby behind them and the male in front. He tried to get around but to no prevail. One of the females headbutted the male and attacked him now. After that the female walk back to the other 2 females to help guard the calf. The rhinos were now at a standoff, 3 smaller white rhino protecting the calf from dad. I left after a few minutes of the standoff, now it looks like the calf and dad won't be back in the same enclosure for now on.
