Houston Zoo Houston Zoo news 2012-2015

Is Houston Zoo still doing their Entry Complex with Humboldt Penguins and Sea Lion exhibit with acrylic tunnel from AZA 2014? I thought it a neat concept where the Sea Lions could go inside a cave to cool down and avoid the sun. The cave could also be a intimate function area with tables for special events.

I've never heard about this, it sounds like it would be pretty cool. I've never heard HZ mention it so it's probably not in the plans anytime soon. Shame, since I've always thought their sea lion exhibit could be improved. It's the only marine mammal species at the zoo and it would be cool if they had a better exhibit.

Portico Group had designed it and showed it off at the conference. I don't know if they will continue with it since Ehmke came aboard. I recall seeing it online, but nothing to do with their website. It was part of their work shown on a bid they were trying for along with several other of their exhibits they designed. I'll see if I can locate it if I can recall what exhibit the bidding was for.

Eh, if the idea was abandoned, I imagine it was ditched a while ago since there's been no word on it, even before Ehmke. Lately they've been focused on their Africa area. I hope you find it, I'd like to see it.

I found it while in the chat earlier and shared it with the others. It's fairly recent, as it has other projects from zoos like Fresno Chaffee. I should have saved it..

While terrible that the animal has died, as did its buddy earlier this year, this means the Grizzly cage is now empty. There is also a vacant grotto next to it that was never renovated and is still concrete slabs.

Perhaps this can be viewed as an opportunity for the zoo to finally finish renovating the bear grottos.

If they go that route, what animals do you think they'll get for it? Probably more grizzlies, I think, but I dunno.

Side note, have you guys seen the episode of Animal Cops where the bears were rescued? It's nuts, they were kept in this warehouse where this guy had like, 20 bears and a few big cats and they're all in these cramped cages.
