Houston Zoo Houston Zoo News 2022

Here is a photo of the proposed Jack's Cafe. To the right of the picture is the current Reflection Pool.

Notable it also has a “Birds of the World” listed for Houston.
It was Ancient Ancestors Part 1 (Birds) and 2 (Reptiles) with Birds supposed to be done before Galapagos. Then timetables changed, and I guess it made sense to get large, noisier construction done on Galapagos before bringing the birds in.
Anyways, it had been a project that had really kind of gone invisible in recent years, glad to see Birds is still in development, even if it’s relabeled.

I can see why they would perhaps do the Galapagos area first since it fell closer to the 100 year anniversary also with the construction as well (noise/distractions to birds). I am liking the direction that the zoo is going in with Lee coming on board. I enjoy keeping up with the studio hanson roberts site for updates.

A lot of new arrivals at the zoo recently!

15-year old male Bornean Orangutan Takai has arrived from Omaha and will be paired with 11-year old female Aurora in the future.

1.1 Crowned Lemurs, 22-year old 0.1 Tashi and 1.0 5-year Tsingy, have been transferred to the zoo from Oakland and Lincoln Park Zoo respectively.

0.1 Vida, a 2-year old jaguar arrived at the zoo in May to be paired with 8-year old male Tesoro.

When Masai Giraffe 1.0 Joshua left the zoo and moved to Lehigh Valley, the zoo also received 1.0 Zawadi from Cleveland on the exact same day. He has a breeding recommendation with the zoo’s 3 adult females.

1.1 blue duikers, 1.0 Vlad, and 0.1 Seana, have been added to the Pygmy hippo habitat and are getting along well with the male Pygmy hippo, Silas.

I saw a Coming Soon sign today for the Eastern Crested Guineafowl. Which will be held in the Pygmy Hippo and Blue Duiker exhibit.

Has anyone heard about a centenary book? I saw a photo online of a publication with the following title: Building a Zoo for All: Celebrating 100 Years of Houston Zoo History and that's something I'd definitely be interested in purchasing. The cover of the book has an image of the zoo's sea lion pool, but I cannot find the book for sale anywhere.
