Dublin Zoo How are the chimps, orangs and gorillas?

I haven't had a chance to get over to Dublin recently so was wondering whether anyone could fill me in on how the chimps, (particulary Lucy), orangs and gorillas are? Was wondering how the integration of Mahanyi was going, she was still outside the main thrust of the group when I was last there but looked well and was occassionally making connection.

Any info would be great.

Cheers:)

I work with the orangs and Gorillas in Dublin.orangs ar doing very well at the moment, sibu ar old male came back at the end of last year and has settled in very well and is in with the girls during the day and has his own area at nite time. The gorillas ar doing well also mayani has been doing very well and spends all her time with the group, her and harry the sliverback ar very close.Work will start at the end of the summer on a new area for the gorillas in the african plains part of the zoo, also lena ia due to pop very very soon!!AND finally lucy and two other chimps were moved to Warsaw zoo at the end of last summer i here there doing well and have settled in well with ther male.hope thats enough

Oh my goodness ... has Lena really not popped yet?!?! I really thought she would have by now!!

I'll get some of my photos from my visit posted at some point ... maybe even tonight!

Thanks DirtyHarry for all the info, I am pleased that Sibu has settled in. I have not seen him for quite some time but have known him for many years, he really is a character.

I cannot believe that Lena is about to pop again. I knew her when she was a gangly 9 year old in with the bunch of juveniles and what a great mum she has become, so good luck there with her and the newborn when he/she arrives. I am so pleased that Mayani has integrated and is hanging out with Harry, that is good for both of them. I will look forward to seeing the new enclosure, that has been a while in the planning, so I am sure you are happy that it is taking place.

When you say the two others chimps and Lucy, i am wondering if one of the old females died? If so i am very sorry to hear that, and am tentative in asking whom? It is good news that they have a chance of a proper group again but I am sure that you miss Lucy very much, she is so beautiful.

So thanks for all the news, i hope to be over very soon and will see for myself. I will keep my eyes peeled on the forum for any more news.

Cheers!

lucy

no judy is alive and well, she will be travelling to warsaw in about two months, she is lucys grandmother,so will be meeting up with her daughter mandy also. The other old chimps ar in the african plains.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was concerned that one of the old girls had gone to chimp heaven! I suppose that is inevitable as they are getting on a bit! So do you know the make up of the group in Warsaw and if the girls are already in with the group? Also why they went in the first place. I suppose the all female group wasn't really going anywhere in the terms of expansion. As you I am sure know, there is an all girl group at Dudley, although I don't think that was originally the plan.

chimps

Warsaw will hav four females from Dublin and have one male, the main reason they were moved was lucy was not getting on well with the male in ar zoo so it was deceided it would be better for her to move with some chimps she got on well with.ie her mother and grandmother and another chimp.Warsaw had just built a new chimp area and only had one male, all chimps ar together now and ar gettin on really well.

Hi, I work with chimps in Warsaw Zoo. All females are doing great, including Judy. If you want to see Lucy now visit our Facebook profile Szympansy Pan Troglodytes. I have a questions for those from Dublin - what was your group situation before sending us your females? Did you have any aggression problems with them? And why was Lucy hand-reared (and for how long)? I'd be glad for any answer.
