How did you discover Zoochat?

A couple years ago I was looking for reviews on the 'Ballarat Bird World' wildlife park before an impending visit, and a post from this site popped up in the Google search results. I wanted to contact the poster but I had to sign up to send him a PM. I found myself checking in to the forums every day ever since. :D

So how did you stumble upon Zoochat?

I came across this site through Google. I was just curious if there were any substantial forums about zoos.

I found Zoochat, was Zoobeat when I joined, while looking up information on Andalas the Sumatran Rhino at the LA Zoo. I remember that back then the LA Zoo was the only zoo with its own section in the US forum, so it's amazing how much this site has grown since then.

I was looking for pictures of trotters world of animals. I clicked a zoochat picture, and was then intrigued by the website. after a month of lurking I decided to make a account.

I was on an archaeological expedition in the Peruvian rain forest in 1936. I came upon an ancient temple and went inside looking for an internet cafe. After surviving a couple of death traps (a barrage of poisonous darts and a nasty moving wall with spikes) I did find an ancient monitor that had very slow internet access. I put a couple of gold coins by the skeleton at the administration desk, not wanting to anger any ancient spirits that might be lurking about. I did a little web surfing as I was curious about a species of spider that I had found in the jungle and wondered if there were any good exhibits for this species in any zoo in the world. "Zoochat" popped up in the web search (we were still using Mosaic back then - don't forget, this was 1936). Unfortunately before I could find the answer to my spider question my internet time expired and a nasty boulder came rolling at me. I just barely made it out of the temple alive.

And that is the tale of how I discovered Zoochat.

So even back then you used the internet while high? :D

I don't remember, it was so long ago. But not as long as some, it seems.

:p

I looked up something from Alexandria Zoo (Egypt), and google led me here. I followed the site (lurking) for over a year, and even once I'd made an account I barely posted anything for quite some time. I think it was Chlidonias' photo of the leopard cage at Angkor Zoo which set me off. :)

I was searching for information regarding the opening date of Realm of the Red Ape at Chester zoo. The first person on the forum to contact me was very knowledgeable, I was surprised when I later found out that he was a teenager.

Did you then ask him to go for ice cream with you in your black panel van? :D

I came across this site through Google while typing Musk Oxen in United States zoos currently. After reading alot of stuff on here for bout a week i decided to make an account. 1 year later here i am :)

I was looking for pictures of Saiga in zoos when the Bing images picture brought me to ZooChat. I actually just favorited the site and forgot about it for almost a year before rediscovering it. After several months of using it to simply research information on Beardsley, Bronx, and to find rare animal photos, I ended up on BeardsleyZooFan's Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo News thread and that's when I decided to join. Several months later here I am.

I was trying to find information about our female walrus Neseyka, who was recently transferred to Tierpark Hagenbeck (Hamburg, Germany), and I have found Neseyka's photo by Animal. It was July 2012, since that time I am here.

What a snide, unfunny, and unnecessary comment.

Oh I was just joking around. It was a reference to another thread where we were warning ThylacineAlive about giving out too much personal info on Zoochat because of stalkers/paedophiles who would encourage him to go for ice cream in their black panel vans. So although I say it tongue in cheek, it is a very real problem that everyone, especially the under-18 kids here, needs to always be aware of.

It's at least the second time you've made this sort of comment directed at another poster. It doesn't add to the debate imho.

Hmmm... I haven't been keeping a tally, but I am sorry if you feel offended. I do recall that another poster wasn't offended (gulo gulo?) because he realised the way he phrased something did make him sound like a paedo. (What debate are you referring to, by the way?)
