I'm guessing you mean driving time? I live ten minutes walk from Wellington Zoo, which is one of the four main zoos in New Zealand.

Given how steep the terrain is there, I'm guessing you live just across the road - but it still takes you 10 minutes to climb to the zoo? :P

We currently live about 15 minutes drive from Taronga Zoo - although depending on traffic, it can be as much as 45 minutes

Monarto Zoo is less than 10 minute drive from my Dad's place - although Monarto didn't open until after I left home to move to Adelaide.

We did high school geography excursions to the area that is now part of the zoo, examining soil and plant life - back then it was a holding area for excess stock from Adelaide zoo, and held bison and some species of antelope.

I'm a bit surprised how close you all live to places!

It's 60-70 minutes to both Salisbury Zoo and Brandywine Zoo for me, both very small zoos that I rarely go to.
Plumpton Park is 80 minutes (and my dad works 2 minutes from there). Philly, Smithsonian, and Maryland Zoo are all about 100 minutes each, along with National Aquarium and Adventure Aquarium.

Where I live the closest small zoo is about 40 mins away, my closest large zoo is 2 hours away.

Two official zoos which are both roughly about 40-45 minutes away and the Instituto Butantan which though not a zoo as such has an excellent serpentarium (and a colony of rhesus macaques) open to the public at about 25-30 minutes away.

I actually live about 500 metres away from the Werribee Open Range Zoo. It's within walking distance which is nice. Melbourne Zoo is also close, about a half an hour drive.

The closest non-specialty zoo is Menominee Park Zoo about a half an hour away (that's what I put in the poll), but Butterfly Gardens of Wisconsin is actually closer.

I used to live pretty close (maybe 3 miles?) to Reid Park Zoo and a bit farther (maybe 20 miles?) from Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Last fall I moved further west into the Tucson Mountains and now live almost halfway between them. According to Google Maps, Reid Park Zoo is 17 minutes (7.9 miles) and Desert Museum is 20 minutes (10 miles).

About 15/20 minutes from Knowsley Safari or around half hour from Chester Zoo

I live about a 20-25 minutes away from the Minnesota zoo, but I’m also fairly close to como, which is about 30 minutes away.

I never actually put two and two together to realize that Taronga Zoo was in Sydney until that Secret of the Zoo Down Under series. Now to figure out how it got such a prime piece of real estate.

To answer the question at hand: 5.7 miles from Denver Zoo. It was 3.2 miles prior to January.

My city has one zoo and one aquarium. I live about 12 minutes away from the zoo, and 15 away from the aquarium (driving, of course). However that said, I have worked at both of them, and I have managed to make it to both in under 10 minutes on one or two occasions (although I don't recommend it, the potential for a very costly speeding ticket is very high).

Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium is a 25 minute drive and the Kansas City Zoo is a 30 minute drive from where I currently live.

I live in the middle of nowhere. Both Blank Park and Henry Doorly are an hour away, (although Blank Park is closer). Kansas City is like 2 hours away but I've never been there. I was going to go there last spring but, you know...

I live an hour away from the Los Angeles Zoo and twenty minutes away from the Aquarium of the Pacific both are in opposite directions but are still largely populated. Los Angeles county is large but the actual Los Angeles area that includes Disneyland and Hollywood is MASSIVE. Like if you opened two other major zoos in different parts of the Los Angles area they wouldn’t effect each other or the current Los Angeles zoo. Our only other zoos are both close to each other and aren’t very well known in the whole area.

Taronga Zoo was established in 1916 at Ashton Park near Bradley's Head on Sydney's North Shore - which had previously been a military reserve until 1908.

The area was largely undeveloped other than some recreational facilities and the fortifications and naval navigation aids at the heads.

Development along the harbour foreshore wasn't that extensive at the time because of the steep terrain in the area.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge wasn't built until 1932, so access to the north shore was restricted to boats and ferries. Until the bridge was built, the nearest land crossing was a long way inland near Parramatta.

Visiting the zoo by ferry still remains a popular thing to do - the lower entrance to the zoo was constructed near the existing ferry wharf that had existed long before the zoo was constructed.
