Perth Zoo How many hyenas does Perth Zoo have?

Perth Zoo has two Hyenas

Sabi (Male) 17 years old
Kigana (Dominent Male) 24 years old

Sabi has been at the zoo since roughly 2007/2008
Kigana has been at the zoo since 2011

Kigana came from Singapore Zoo
Unsure where Sabi originally came from
Photo's below are of Sabi :)
I only see them soon as the zoo opens to around 10am, 11am ish then they dissapear for the rest of the day.

I like Sabi the most :)

Early morning savannah walk (A perth zoo close encounter experience) I did it and its not the best close encounter but the best part of it is that you get to make cardboard treat enrichment for Sabi which is really interesting. He shreads it to pieces but becuase kigana is the higher individual he has to be kept away or else Kigana would bully Sabi and steal all the food.

Thanks @Johnpaul21 I honestly thought the zoo only had Sabi:) I can remember once I think it was Sabi got his head stuck in enrichment and it took him 7 minutes to got the box of his head. I hope one day the zoo gets more Hyenas:D

Funny you shoud say that.... As mentioned in a previous post I was informed by a keeper (KEEPER NOT DOCENT) on my early morning savannah walk that they are looking to bring in some new females from monarto safari park, the same pleace where Sabi came from as sort of a trade for the elephants. This will most likely take place after the death of Kigana and possibly after or during the upgrade of the african savanah.
 
Ok @Johnpaul21 When did you do your Savannah walk? I can’t wait for the females if the trade gos through:) I will try make a list of possible candidates from Monarto.

Monarto realistically only have the following females to offer;

0.1 Kanzi (13/09/2017) Piltengi x Thandiwe
0.1 Fahari (03/11/2020) Gamba x Forest
0.1 Utundu (23/01/2024) Endesha x Kanzi
0.1 Tufani (05/03/2024) Endesha x Fahari

Keep in mind, they'd likely want to retain one (or both) of the older, breeding females.

Therefore if Perth do intend to acquire females from Monarto Safari Park, it would be either of the mother/daughter pairs or the two younger females together.
