Collared Peccary/Javelina - Pecari tajacu

This thread is only for members of the family Suidae. Peccaries are members of the family Tayassuidae.

Since I started keeping track in 2020, I've seen a total of four species:

- Northern Sulawesi Babirusa (at Roger Williams Park Zoo only)
- Common Warthog (at a total of four zoos)
- Red River Hog (at a total of five zoos)
- Visayan Warty Pig (at Capron Park Zoo and Utica Zoo)

Since I notice some people also mentioning peccaries (even though they aren't suids), I've also seen the Chacoan Peccary at Stone and Elmwood Park Zoos.

My list is pretty much identical to everyone else’s here; I’ve only seen 5 species, all of them captive:

- Wild Boar (Sus scrofa)
- Visayan Warty Pig (Sus cebifrons)
- Red River Hog (Potamochoerus porcus)
- Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
- North Sulawesi Babirusa (Babyrousa celebensis)

My proudest achievement in suids is having photographed 4 Asian subspecies of wild boar - Japanese (Sus scrofa leucomystax), Okinawan (Sus scrofa riukiuanus), Taiwanese (Sus scrofa taivanus) and Banded Pig (Sus scrofa vittatus), the last one wild in Singapore.

That is a remarkable accomplishment! Knowing this, I was looking forward to your post in this thread!

I have the same standard recurring 5 species

Domesticated pig (Sus scrofa)
Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
Visayan warty pig (Sus cebifrons)
Red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus)
North Sulawesi Babirusa (Babyrousa celebensis)

Unfortunately my list of suids is rather unimpressive
Domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus)
Visayan warty pig (Sus cebifrons)
Red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus)
Common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
North Sulawesi babirusa (Babyrousa celebensis)

Did you happen to document the subspecies of Collared peccary and White lipped peccary you saw?

The Boar sighting was very brief and unexpected; walking along the road at the francolin site, went round a bend to see the boar facing us on the road, it looked up, turned tail and ran. No photos, but still vivid around 30 years later.
