How many U.S. states have you been in?

I have been all up and down the eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida, unfortunately I did not get off the bus in Virginia. I will someday.

As an overachiever I have a very ambitious plan, I would like to reach the highest natural point in all 50 States. Does anyone else have any similarly ambitious plans? Like visit a zoo in every state? Bonus points if you have done some of the more remote territories as well.

Well do you mean like, visited and spent time in or just been in at some point or another?

I have spent time in Connecticut (obviously), New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona, Utah, the Cincinnati areas of both Ohio and Kentucky, and Nevada. And I've also spent time in Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. I've been to other states apart from those, but not done much in them.

Of those, I've been to zoological collections in Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, and Washington D.C.

Five - Florida, California, Nevada, Arizona and Illinois, visiting zoos in only California and Florida

I have been to Nc, Ny, Nj, Vermont, Md, Va, Delaware, Pa, RI, Illinois, Nevada, Cn, and Massachusetts. So that is just 13, which is like one- forth of the states. I plan to visit a few new states next year. I have missed major ones such as Florida, Texas and California.

I have been to zoos in 10 of them: Nj, Ny, Nc, Md, Pa, RI, Illinois, Nevada, Cn and Massachusetts.

I've been in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, The Carolinas, New York, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachussettes, Delaware, Nebraska, The Dakotas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Montana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Missouri.

Anyone who has followed my various road trip threads over the years knows that I've visited all 50 U.S. states and many of them on numerous occasions. Interestingly enough I've visited a zoo or aquarium in 41 of those 50 states and a month from now I'll have visited approximately 205 American zoos/aquariums.

U.S. states that I have not toured a zoo in:

Alaska
Hawaii
Delaware (many zoos there?)
Maine (many zoos there?)
Nevada
New Hampshire (many zoos?)
Vermont (many zoos?)
West Virginia
Wyoming (any zoos at all?)

Just having spent time in them, but preferably having at least gotten off of whatever transport you are on and actually having walked around for a bit, even if its just to use the rest stop (which is what I did in Georgia, though I was quite charmed by the newspaper I bought). Eating a meal is even better (did this in the Carolina's, was also charmed). But flying over definitely does not count. But canoeing or kayaking through does (both shores of the river must be of said state or you must set foot on the shore of the state, that is get out of the boat and stand with both feet on dry land for a count of five).

Darn, I've only done four states for zoological collections (MA, CT, RI, and NY). I should have visited "The Living Seas" when I was at Epcot (FL) but it was a high school trip and we all had to be with a buddy and my assigned buddies were zoo ignoring fools (plus this was pre internet for me and I didn't know it was there, nowadays I would do research beforehand to avoid missing precious zoo related opportunities). Or would that not count as a zoo? Alas, we did not go to the animal kingdom (I actually went to a school filled with zoo ignoring fools. Teachers included). And I only have the highest points for two states down (RI and MA). But there is still time.

If we're counting just AZA zoos, there is only 1 AZA-accredited facility in Delaware and 1 in New Hampshire. The other ones you asked about not having zoos don't contain any AZA zoos.
For states that I've actually spent time in, I've been in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida, as well as Washington D.C. I've also passed through New Jersey and Delaware. I've visited zoos in CT, MA, NY, RI, PA, FL, and DC.

I've been in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Minnesota, Georgia, Florida, California, Washington, Nevada, & Hawaii.

I visited most (or all) of the western US as a child on family trips, but have little recollection of much of it so I will not count it.

As an adult from 1990 (my mid twenties) to present, I have visited the following states with the following "zoo" counts. When I say zoo, I am including any exotic animal facility, including rescue centers and aquariums.

Washington (2 zoos)
Nevada (4 zoos, 2 now closed)
California (16 zoos, 2 now closed)
Colorado (2 zoos)
Arizona (9 zoos, 2 now closed)
New Mexico (6 zoos)
Texas (12 zoos, 1 now closed)
Kansas (1 zoo)
Missouri (1 zoo)
Maryland (1 zoo)
District of Columbia (1 zoo)
Ohio (2 zoos)
Kentucky (1 zoo)
Indiana (1 zoo)
Minnesota (1 zoo)
Tennessee (2 zoos)
New York (1 zoo)
Florida (9 zoos, 1 now closed)

I'm impressed with all the states and zoos everyone has been to! Feel free to add Canadian provinces and Mexican states.

Miami, Manhattan, and Boston. I only visited the metropolitan areas so I didn't see the rest of the states.

Worked in Minnesota, Montana, Arizona and Florida and driven between all those locations.

I think I have been through all states west of a line from South Caralona to minesota, except Texas. I somehow never got there although I want to.

Traveled through all the western Canadian states and up to Cambridge bay in the Arctic.

Alabama
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina
North Carolina
Virginia
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
New York
Maryland
DC
Connecticut
Tennessee
Kentucky
Arkansas
Texas
Louisiana

Quintana Roo

Five:

California (5 zoos)
Arizona (1 zoo)
Nevada (no zoos - but we did see some of the animals in Vegas' hotels/casinos, including the White Tigers)
Florida (13 zoos)
Georgia (3 zoos)

Plus about 6 hours in Dallas/Fort Worth airport, but we never left the building and the only animal we saw there was a single Mourning Dove flapping about on the tarmac. :D

I've now done a collection in New Jersey.

At the moment:
Connecticut- 3 collections
New York- 4 collections (soon to be more)
Rhode Island- 1 collection
Massachusetts- 0 collections

Utah- 0 collections
Ohio- 1 collection
Kentucky- 1 collection
Nevada- 0 collections
Washington D.C.- 1 collection
Puerto Rico- 0 collections (though I'm likely to do the zoo there one day)
