I've been to a few zoos that have sizeable waterfowl collections. Looking through my lifelist, for captive waterfowl I've seen 49 species, many of which were between Buttonwood Park Zoo, Franklin Park Zoo, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, and Disney's Animal Kingdom. In fact, these four zoos have such significant waterfowl collections that there are only two waterfowl species I've seen that I haven't seen at one of those four zoos.
The species I have seen are:
1. Mandarin Duck (Southwicks Zoo, Bird Kingdom)
2. Egyptian Goose (Cleveland Metroparks Zoo)
3. Northern Pintail (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom)
4. Bahama Pintail Duck (Franklin Park Zoo, Southwicks Zoo)
5. Baikal Teal (Franklin Park Zoo)
6. South Georgia Pintail (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
7. Philippine Duck (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
8. Indian Spot-billed Duck (Disney's Animal Kingdom)

12. Emperor Goose (Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Buttonwood Park Zoo)
13. Swan Goose (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Buffalo Zoo)
14. Lesser White-fronted Goose (Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Buttonwood Park Zoo)
15. Bar-Headed Goose (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
16. Redhead Duck (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom)
17. Canvasback (Disney's Animal Kingdom, Franklin Park Zoo)
18. Baer's Pochard (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
19. Red-Breasted Goose (Franklin Park Zoo, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Buttonwood Park Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom)
20. Nene (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
21. Bufflehead (Franklin Park Zoo, Buttonwood Park Zoo)
22. American Goldeneye (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
23. Barrow's Goldeneye (Franklin Park Zoo)
24. Ringed Teal (Capron Park Zoo, Franklin Park Zoo, Roger Williams Park Zoo, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo)
25. Ross' Goose (Rosamond Gifford Zoo)
26. Australian Wood Duck (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Franklin Park Zoo)
27. Andean Goose (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
28. Magellan Goose (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
29. Coscoroba Swan (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
30. Black Swan (Franklin Park Zoo, Southwicks Zoo)
31. Black-Necked Swan (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
32. Mute Swan (Franklin Park Zoo)
33. Spotted Whistling Duck (Disney's Animal Kingdom)

46. African Pygmy Goose (Buttonwood Park Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom)
47. Indian Pygmy Goose (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
48. Argentine Ruddy Duck (Buttonwood Park Zoo)
49. Northern Shoveler (Franklin Park Zoo)

If you want to count it, I've also seen Crested Screamers at Buttonwood Park Zoo, so 50 species in the order Anseriformes.
This year, my captive birds lifelist saw a really large boost- thanks to visits to all the WCS zoos and a weekend road trip to Toronto, Detroit, and Toledo. In fact, 35% of all captive birds I've seen were new additions this year! In terms of waterfowl, the additions were slightly smaller, however I did see 19 new additions, bringing my total to 68 Anatidae species (plus the crested screamer):
1. North American Wood Duck- Queens Zoo
2. Greater Snow Goose- Rosamond Gifford Zoo
3. Lesser Snow Goose- Toronto Zoo
4. Lesser Scaup- Bronx Zoo
5. Cape Barren Goose- Bronx Zoo
6. Long-Tailed Duck- Toledo Zoo
7. Trumpeter Swan- Central Park, Bronx, Queens, Toronto, and Detroit Zoos (surprising to see a species for the first time this year at so many zoos!)
8. West Indian Whistling Duck- Rosamond Gifford Zoo
9. Harlequin Duck- Central Park, Bronx, and Toledo Zoos
10. Pink-Eared Duck- Central Park Zoo
11. North American Ruddy Duck- Queens Zoo
12. Radjah Shelduck- Bronx Zoo
13. Knob-Billed Duck- Bronx Zoo
14. Spectacled Eider- Toledo Zoo
15. Common Eider- Central Park Zoo
16. Garganey- Central Park Zoo
17. Cape Shelduck- Toronto Zoo
18. Ruddy Shelduck- Central Park Zoo
19. Common Shelduck- Prospect Park Zoo

101 Species:

29 in the wild/feral
15 in the wild & captivity
72 in captivity
3 hybrid taxa

Hopefully some upcoming visits in the near future to Cologne & Walsrode and maybe even to some wild locales will increase the totals.

Currently on 133 captive.

Missing the following in Europe: Horned screamer, Northern screamer, Greater white-fronted goose, Pink-footed goose, Flying steamerduck, American comb duck, Brazilian merganser, King eider.

Wild list is pretty short, only around 20.

I'd be interested to know how many more species than those currently in Europe have captive populations elsewhere? I've only really come across Cotton pygmy goose and a few Oceanian endemics (Blue duck, Brown teal, Campbell teal, Grey teal...)

Do you mean species which aren't kept in Europe? Pretty sure Brown Teal are still common - or at least still kept - in Europe.

Just curious, how are Black Swan and Cape Barren Goose the only two species you have seen wild? They aren't really a predictable duo to have been guessed at.

They aren't* - only in NZ now I think? Unless Sylvan Heights or somewhere in the US has some. But yeah in principle I meant species not kept in Europe.

*Might be some in private collections in Europe though, I don't know.

Oops missed four, so therefore that makes 105 species.

@amur leopard I'm surprised you haven't seen PFG considering the size of skeins that arrive on our shores in Autumn. Maybe a birding trip to Norfolk or Cheshire may even gain you a bonus GWFG too

I believe the last public holding of Brown Teal in Europe ceased to keep the species in 2019, but last I heard there were still a handful in private collections.

That's surprising, but given how recent a couple of the ZTL listings are I'd wager they are still kept by private holders.

I’ll definitely try and give it a go next year, thanks for the pointers :). Maybe in conjunction with a trip up to Chester and Blue Planet Aquarium?

None in the USA and I haven't seen them mentioned by any private holders that specialize in waterfowl and post stuff on websites/social media.

You needn't even wait all that long - they don't tend to disperse until March, and until then occur in any half-decent area of wetland. Your best bet would be the London Wetland Centre I reckon.
