I have just realised that I have missed Wingham Wildlife Park of the list (I visited it quite a few years ago and don't remember it well). I am adding it just to indulge my OCD tendencies but I will not be adding future collections visited because I see that it will spam the thread.

I suggest adding them in large bulks. Like if you've just visited one collection then leave it be but once you've visited like 10+ I'd say it'd be fine to add them all. Or maybe just update at the end of each year.

Just to put a bit of context here.. I am informed of a Japanese guy who has done around 1200 collections,Jonas Livet(see earlier thread) is over a thousand(at a surprisingly young age),Harry Schram of Belgium (ex EAZA head honcho) around 700.Recently the Crocodile Zoo at Eskilstrup in Denmark made it 652 for me(I would like to think I will crack "the grand" myself). Anyone know of anyone else with those kind of numbers?

41, mostly of them in Spain and a few in France, Portugal, Germany and Netherlands.

I have visited 76 zoos of which 72 are in the UK! Having a family life also means we generally visit collections within easy reach multiple times and then when we are on holiday :)

592 of 20 countries: 356 in Spain; 106 in France; 32 in Portugal; 17 in Germany; 16 in Great Britain; 12 in Holland; 11 in Belgium; 7 in Ireland, Italy and Switzerland; 6 in Austria; 5 in Chec Republic; 2 in North Ireland and Mónaco; 1 in Andorra, Denmark, Slovakia, Gibraltar, Greece and Hungary.

@CavsFan21: there are almost a dozen places that you listed within the state of Ohio that are arguably not true zoos, although I totally understand that the very definition of a "zoo" is difficult to determine. For instance, Stearns Homestead seems to have only farm animals and some of those nature centers don't have a lot of exotic creatures on offer.

@MJB: 356 zoos just in Spain? Wow! You must be including absolutely everything.

@snowleopard: Which places on my list in Ohio would you not consider zoos? My definition is "two or more species of animal, artificially maintained, on show". What is your definition, snowleopard?

I am amazed that Spain has that many!

It is purely subjective to each individual and it is something that I've been wrestling with for a long time now (see the thread below). I would definitely not include anywhere without exotic animals and some nature centers only have a handful of terrariums...but each to their own!

@ snowleopard: I like your definitions, but you said every zoochatter has his own definition of zoo. I do not really count nature centers, sanctuaries, aviaries, etc. as "zoos" just "animal establishments"

I m not sure how it works in the US, but for the EU legislation can make it a bit easier as Zoos need a zoo licence. There are some difference between EU countries on when you need a licence, but in most cases it works quite well to help define what is a zoo and what not. Like in Netherlands you need a licence if you have more than 10 exotics on display and you are open for the public more than 6 days a year.

Just behind Zoogiraffe at 293. I quite want #300 to be somewhere memorable, rather than Amazonia in Cromer or something...

To bump an old but interesting thread.... I'm now up to 331 (300, a couple of years ago, was Gorlitz Tierpark in eastern Germany - not exactly the San Diego Wild Animal Park, but very nice nonetheless). Even with a few more due next month, tied in with Zoohistorica in Stuttgart, I fear that my rate of addition is rather paltry compared to some! In part this is because Other Things steal time, sadly. In part because I would rather go and spend some more time at, say, Antwerp Zoo rather than "doing" lots of smaller places I've not yet seen: while I'm sure an East Coast trip of the Parrot Zoo, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sewerby Hall would be lovely, a return trip to Artis or Prague or wherever would be lovelier!

I know Tim Brown is closing in on 700 (or so he says!). How many are others sitting on?

My total is currently standing at 81 collections; over the course of this year, I've been to 24 collections and 16 of those were first-time visits, so I think I'm not doing too badly.
