Currently sitting at 61. I have gotten 12 new zoos in the last year, those noted by the star. These days I am pretty picky about where I visit and I have little patience to do more than one institution in a day. So I generally stick to AZA zoos or zoos that individuals on this site recommended.

367, although some are nature centers, butterfly houses, etc. They all have animal collections, Have visited 225 of 241 AZA zoos and aquariums. As for AZA zoos, only missing Duluth
Zoo and Assiniboine Park Zoo in US and Canada. Difficult to get all the Sea Life facilities. Also mssing a couple of international zoos. But I am not done yet.

Wow! Pretty sure you have the most AZA out of anyone on here. Btw Duluth Zoo changed their name a few years ago, it's now Lake Superior Zoo. What have been your favorites?

Here's my short list:

South Africa:

-National Zoological gardens of South Africa
-Joburg Zoo
-Lory park Zoo
-Montecasino Bird Gardens
-Benoni Animal Park
-CrocWorld
-Lion and Safari Park
-Lion and Rhino Safari Park

Namibia:

Swakopmund Reptile Park

Total: 9

You've got me beat, although I've been to Assiniboine Park and it has an absolutely spectacular Polar Bear complex. :) I've visited 173 of the 241 currently accredited AZA zoos and aquariums, although none of the overseas establishments. Counting only Canadian and American facilities, I've visited 173 out of 225. It's always a bit odd to see AZA zoos listed in places such as Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea.

However, my all-time total is 520 different zoos/aquariums, although that figure hasn't changed in two years due to Covid restrictions and a closed Canadian border.

My list, not including parks I was brought to as a child that I barely remember (in that case, you may include Seaworld San Diego and Santa Barbara.

Anyone who lists favorite zoos or best zoo is sure to start a discussion (or even a fight). There are many great small to medium-sized zoos, but I don't include them as the best as they simply don't have everything that one finds in a larger zoo, such as a greater committee to in-situ conservation, number of species, space and other programs. So my favorite zoos would be Singapore (with the Night Zoo), Melbourne (all three), San Diego with the Safari Park, Bronx (WCS), Zoo Leipzig, Schonbrunn Zoo. Zoo Hanover, Zoo Zurich, Chester Zoo, Berlin Zoological Garden and Prague Zoo.
