My list can be seen below. I have categorised them by country, and added another category ('borderline') for zoos that are either:

a) museums, nature reserves, or anything of the sort, that can claim to be zoos by virtue of having a few live/captive animals present.
b) small, free to enter zoos that mostly have domestic animals, but qualify by virtue of having a few exotics.

There are varying levels to this category. The Horniman and Slimbridge, for example, are almost certainly zoos, while I'm having second thoughts about even mentioning Charmouth or Leeds Castle.

I also visited Call of the Wild Zoo today, but really don't think it counts as a new zoo, as it is on the same site as tropical wings! It would be like trying to claim 'the new Bristol Zoo' isn't the same as wild place improved, which is all it really will be!

Some of these places probably will not count as being zoo-type facilities by the standards of some. I have however abstained from including any pet shops with permanent animals, university campuses that hold live animals, and other places that have/had live animals but that I doubt would be counted as being zoos by very many people.

-Auckland Zoo: 2007 (?)
-Butterfly Creek: 2005 (?)
-Kelly Tarlton's: At least once in the 2000s.
-Prawn Park: 2005 (?)
-National Aquarium: Once, some time in the 2000s.
-Napier Marineland: 2005. Now closed.
-Seahorse Farm Hawke's Bay: 2005. Now closed.
-Brooklands Zoo: 2014
-Virginia Lake Aviary: Two visits in 2012, and then visited once or twice more in the mid-2010s. May close in the near future, due to pressure from local councillors on welfare grounds.
-Paradise Valley Springs: Once, some time in the 2000s.
-Rainbow Springs: 2015, brief visit. Now closed.
-Agrodome: 2015, brief visit; saw very few animals other than those that were used for the on-stage show.
-Kowhai Park Aviaries: I think that I visited here once in the mid-2010s, but all of the aviaries had extremely dense mesh that made any attempt to photograph the captive birds a complete waste of time. The experience disappointed me so much that my brain has wiped most of my memory of it.
-Te Manawa Museum: Visited in 2023, but now only has a tiny number of fish in two tanks. Seemingly last held reptiles in 2021. I suspect that the staff are in the process of phasing out live animals entirely.
-Mt. Bruce: 2004 (?) and 2013, although on the former visit, the only captive animal that I can recall seeing was a house sparrow that was trapped inside one of the large aviaries for native birds, and on my latter visit, I was there to see wild birds and paid very little attention to the captive species.
-Owlcatraz: First visited in early- to mid-2000s, final visit in 2013. Now closed.
-Murrayfield Café and Petting Zoo: 2013 and 2022, although in 2022 the only remaining captive animals were domestic sheep. Now closed.
-Loco Miniature Railway & Gardens: Possibly visited once in the early- to mid-2000s. Now closed.
-Staglands: First visited in early- to mid-2000s, most recent visit in 2023.
-Bluebank Blueberry & Emu Farm: Once, some time in the 2000s.
-Reikorangi Pottery Park: 2014 and 2016. Now closed.
-Ngā Manu: Likely first visited in early- to mid-2000s, most recent visit in 2021. Still operating despite having an abysmal number and diversity of captive animals for many years.
-Lindale Village: First visited in the early- to mid-2000s. My final visit in which they still had a decent-sized collection of animals was likely in the late 2000s.
-Queen Elizabeth Park Aviary: 2021. I should also note that there is allegedly a deer enclosure near here; in any case I did not find it during my visit.
-Wellington Zoo: First visited in early- to mid-2000s, most recent visit in 2023.
-Zealandia: Likely first visited in 2000s; most recent visit in 2022. Now holds almost no truly captive animals.
-Begonia House of Wellington Botanic Garden: Has a pond with common tropical freshwater fish. Also served as a venue for docents from Wellington Zoo in the past. First visited in early- to mid-2000s, most recent visit in 2023.
-Reading Cinemas Aquarium: A small saltwater aquarium that was inside a mini-mall in Wellington City. I think that it was run by the same people who run the Island Bay Marine Education Centre. First visited in the 2000s; final visit was probably in the early- to mid-2010s. No longer exists. To my understanding, it was removed in 2016 due to major earthquakes that happened in that year.
-Ōtari-Wilton's Bush Information Centre: Likely first visited in the mid-2000s, when the facility had multiple tanks for native freshwater animals e.g. crayfish. Still operating but no longer has animals.
-Riddiford Garden Aviary: First visit likely in the 2000s, most recent visit in 2023. Due to be demolished in the near future.
-Island Bay Marine Education Centre: First visited in the early- to mid-2000s, most recent visit in 2023.
-Picton Aquarium: 2014. Now closed.
-The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary: 2021. Has captive native species in the visitor centre at the entrance; I do remember seeing the gecko that is held there but I don't think that I would have paid much attention to the other live animal exhibit(s).

There may also have been a farm park that was on or near the Coromandel Peninsula that I visited in the 2000s. Additionally, there was an attraction in the North Island where many honey bees could be viewed from an indoor setting that was next to an adjoining honey shop, which I also visited in the 2000s (Lindale Village once had an attraction like this, but I am definitely thinking of a separate facility).

My 300th post and by 50th zoo (Voliere Zurich) are just a few weeks apart, so it feels fitting to note one with the other.

Looking at information and images online, I realise that the aquarium section of the Charmouth Coast Centre that prompted me to include it on my previous list probably never existed. :p I was very young when I visited.
