This year has a lot of emphasis on Bavaria with only two of the new collections being outside of the state. I also visited my first (and so far only ) wildpark this year.

A fairly modest new year for zoos for me, with seven additions to the list, pushing me up to 153 institutions: Little Rock Zoo, Akron Zoo, Aquarium of Niagara, Bird Kingdom, Zoologico UNSAAC, Dickerson Park Zoo, and Johnny Morris Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium. I also got to visit Buffalo, Memphis, and Kansas City for the second time each (in the case of Buffalo, my first visit since 2005). New species that I added to my life list this year included ring-tailed vontsira (a nemesis species which had eluded me on previous visits to the Bronx), bear cuscus, yellow-casqued hornbill, culpeo, and vicuna (the later was at a small facility in Peru which held all four species of South American camelids, but which I didn't count on my zoo list).

The one zoo I’ve been to out of the state is the Addis Ababa zoo in Ethiopia. It’s very bad and doesn’t even represent Ethiopian species. It has the lion subspecies but besides that, everything else can be seen in an American or European zoo.

We were in California in May and found the Monterey Zoo, a private zoo with a wonderful display of animals which all looked very happy in their enclosures and run about areas. Very clean and the staff were wonderful.

After my latest zoo trip, I'm at 144 zoos and aquaria, in 20 countries on 4 continents.
I don't expect this number to grow much in the following months, as there won't be an opportunity for a second zootrip this year.

My list grew with 3 zoos since this april, but two of those were in new countries. One new zoo in Belgium (Pakawi Park), one in Nicaragua (The National Zoo) and one in the USA (a rushed 3-hour visit to Houston Zoo)
I am now at 147 zoos and aquaria in 22 countries of 4 continents. Next spring's zootrip will probably be Eastern Germany, and I might also hit Singapore (zoo-focussed)+Malaysia (wildlife-focussed) at the end of 2025.
Starting with 2026 I want to explore new countries in Europe as well (I am still to visit the Baltic states, Scandinavia and Ireland).

Anyway I am likely to hit the 150-zoo milestone next year!

Slight update to this, but despite what I thought when compiling this list, it turns out that I have not visited the Detroit Zoo as far as I can find, which comes as a bit of a surprise considering the number of times that I've been in the Detroit area (especially as a child). That being said, I also seem to have omitted the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences from my list despite it being another facility I visited for the first time this year.
