Hello, I'm planning to go into my undergrad with my zoology degree and was wondering, how exactly do I become a wildlife conservationist at a game reserve in a different area, such as parks in Africa, Asia and South America, etc. By that I mean being able to keep track of the animal numbers, the health, and basically research them. Or is this basically describing a game warden to an extent? Is there anyway to become such a thing, or is there not such a thing at all?

My main advice at this stage in your career is to get a good background in conservation and biology with your university training and start looking for internship opportunities as soon as you can. Getting as much practical experience as you can and making connections with people doing what you love is essential. Your college will likely have an internship coordinator that can help you, but pursuing a career in wildlife conservation will require a lot of initiative too. I would recommend looking into what kind of internships the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the state wildlife department where you live might have available. For international opportunities I would look into non-governmental organizations that work on conservation issues that you are interested in and check out the internship opportunities they may have. Groups like Save the Elephants do have internships, usually volunteer. You are setting off on a noble and difficult path. Asking the questions that you are is exactly the right way to get started.
