How to upload photos to forum threads?

Hey! I’ve been struggling figuring out how to upload photos to forum threads-even when I get a url, it doesn’t end up working. Are there any websites that are good for getting URLs that work on the forums, or are there any other approaches to adding images to threads?
 
You can just use the "Upload a File" button to attach an image directly to a post.

When you upload the image, there is an option to embed the image directly into the post either as a thumbnail....

Does the upload a file button not appear for newer users? Ive been a member for around a month and I do not see that option. I figure its part of the spam protections implemented last year but wanted to check!

Probably a certain amount of posts and activity required to be able to do so.
